I took a break from maps for a few days. watched some tv. Farmed some currency on an alt. Read a lot of forum threads. Decided to try again on the map progression tonight. But... after just 1 map, I am already struggling to find any desire to continue.
This is what I was afraid of. When I purposely take breaks, even small ones, I have a hard time getting re-interested in what I was doing. I am currently considering another alt, but that too has me less than intrigued. GGG, I sincerely hope my feedback was of some value to you and will continue to brainstorm ideas for as long as I can remain interested. DISCLAIMER!

Here is what I think: You aren't supposed to be progressing to the highest level maps yet.
Sure. some people do. You can farm and farm and farm, and get your viewers to help you and do all sorts of things to make it happen. But it isn't designed to work yet. And why should it? This is beta. the game isn't done. There are more acts to come. Of course you find it frustrating, you are trying to play in a system which isn't finished yet. My advice? Come back when it's done. I'm just starting to get into the level 69-71 maps. If they prove sustainable I'll play. If not, then I'll just come back when they are. No point wasting time farming and failing at an incomplete game. It will be finished eventually and then I'll have fun then. |

" Sage advice. But i'm one of those basement nerds with nothing but time on his hands that everyone hates. So, if I take a break that long, chances are I won't be coming back as I will need to find something to fill the void. Of the 3 games I have quit over the years, I have never been able to come back to them fully. I do try, but find that I have no interest after only a few days. Mostly because they usually don't change the things that made me bored in the first place. In one game's case, it was just time. I played it for 7 years and they just couldn't continue to make it fun for me after that. If I leave this game, I will have to find another and chances are I will become addicted to that one. Unless ofc, there are no good new games out atm. Which is exactly what I thought while searching for a game just before stumbling upon POE. It probably would have been best if I hadn't seen POE until it was finished. But at the very least I can hope my feedback was useful in some way. DISCLAIMER!

Added something to my OP. Basically asking GGG if this is their intended endgame. Meaning is it supposed to be extremely hard and luck based to continue up the map chain. If there were to come out and say "well... yea that is exactly the point of our endgame design" then I will feel a lot better knowing. For now, not knowing if my feedback has fallen on deaf ears or if it has been agreed with to some extent is driving me even more insane than I already am.

I can't find any GGG posts that really state their intentions with maps. There really is nothing out there giving any sort of hint on this subject. Other than the manifesto which touches on the subject briefly.
So here I sit to ponder. I am still trying to think up more ideas on how to improve endgame progression without completely killing the challenge of it. But my mind isn't equipped for such things sadly. DISCLAIMER!

" - buff up bosses so they are really challenging and interesting, and hard (you might die for a whole week trying to figure them out) - give them meaningful drops to reward the effort needed to kill them - add new bosses as time goes by, with new, interesting and hard encounters, new and better drops for players to hunt - tie them all in the game's lore. Work damn hard for PoE to actually have an epic story, that will leave players desiring more This is how I would do it... PS: this leaves a great issue with HC mode, because the guys there would die too, there's no escaping repeated death in my system. But who cares about them, it's not like they care about Default... placeholder for creative sig

" Sounds more like an mmo than ARPG to me. I think bosses need a tune up but I don't think they need mechanics that take people several deaths to figure out. ARPGs are more for build/gear > dmg boss can deal. I think certain bosses currently have to much spike dmg, but I think ALL bosses have to little hp. I don't think a boss should go down as quick or quicker than a yellow mob. Your other 2 suggestions will undoubtedly come with more acts and expansions. DISCLAIMER!

" This game is already a hybrid. Labels aren't worth much in PoE. And they're not suggestions :) Only my own view&opinion, they won't get implemented, here people want to feel like gods and 2-shot bosses, after they finish their cookie-cutter build and acquire godly gear - they want to be OP. This would never happen in my "design", bosses would actually be really hard and make you shed tears. And who can blame me for feeling like this, the game is supposed to be hardcore... placeholder for creative sig Last edited by Undon3#5633 on Apr 24, 2013, 9:36:01 PM

Games have to make money to survive. A game that hard, would struggle to bring enough players to pay for the severs :P
