Very interesting solution Gh0un. While I think it could help, I don't think it will solve my issues with map progression being very luck based. People will still favor those mods, all it would do is force them to have to run at least 1 harder mod with the easier ones.

Of course you would still favour those mods, but with my suggestion you would always hit atleast 2 multiplicative mods on a yellow map.
If you roll 4 mods on a map, 2 of them are suffixes and 2 are prefixes.
The solution completely eliminates the cases where you roll 4 hard mods (which grant no loot, as proven with my calculations)

I see... the devs are already blaming us for not running enough hard mods. I would be satisfied with 4 hard mods if they actually rewarded you with appropriate level map drops. My thing is this... I am not the average player, in that I have horrible luck. Ask anyone who has played any game with me. It is just part of my DNA. So, really no matter what GGG does in terms of minor tweaks, it will NOT help ppl like me progress into higher level maps. What I really need, is for them to take rng almost completely out of the equation for endgame. I am not sure they can or will do this, but this is likely the only way someone with my luck can get to the higher maps.

From my humble experience, I don't think you should spend 40 alts just to get a maze on a 68 map, it's not economical, and also you shouldn't alch 68 maps either... I wouldn't bother below 70.

The lower level maps (below 69-70) are quite sustainable from my experience, even with less than ideal configurations. So meh, if you don't swim in alterations, better to be economical. I used to invest maybe 10, maximum 20 alterations in maps up to 69, but more? No reason, IMO.

The issue for me is that maps beyond 70, even when alched, chaosed and chiseled, which is a HUGE farming effort, especially for a solo player, might not return your investment and even kick you out to the below 70 maps again.

This was how I went about my first attempt at progression. Saving alchs and chisels for 70+ maps only. This lead to me running completely out of maps. After that, I did my research. I am not like most ppl. I have shit for luck, and if I didn't spend 40 alts to maze a map, I would run out of maps... again. Even as I wrote this feedback, I am running out of maps. For the last week I have gone backwards in maps. From 69s, to 68s, and without some luck, very soon 67s. This is with me rolling these maps appropriately for the best possible results and spending the currency to make sure of it.

So in short, our experiences are quite different! And that is mainly what I mean to get across to GGG. There are those of us, that have no luck when it comes to drops. And it is not just a streak of bad luck, for some it is always bad, with a small streak of good every once in a while. My luck seems to come in the form of crafting. I do ok crafting usually, but drops are my bane. Always have been, in every game I have played.

Well, GGG seems to be happy if per average, people get enough. You might not get stuff, but you should sleep better at night knowing that Kripp does :) Or something like this, anyway.

The thing is, there are quite a few map threads here about this very subject, and many complained about the endgame being basically completely RNG. Because in the end, it's the RNG that hurts you, just like it hurts others in drops, just like it hurt me in maps above 70 and so on. Can you try to sway the RNG? Yeah, sure... there are "best paths" to take, so you can minimise the crap that can happen to you. But in the end, it is still RNG, and there are no safety nets implemented, so theoretically you can be unlucky for a very long time, especially since drop rates/"crafting" successes are quite low.

Take this as you want, but my feeling from what I read from GGG is that they are quite happy with how this all works.

Well.. it happened. Aside from a few strays, and the 70+ I was saving, I am now back to 67s. I had over 50 maps 68-69. I am so bummed right now. I think that taking a break will be for the best now. This is the worst feeling. And for it to be the third time is just a kick in the nuts.

Which is exactly why I felt the need to post this thread. I am not sure if GGG realizes how much rng can hurt ppl like me.

The only winning move is to not play.
