Well, GGG seems to be happy if per average, people get enough. You might not get stuff, but you should sleep better at night knowing that Kripp does :) Or something like this, anyway.

The thing is, there are quite a few map threads here about this very subject, and many complained about the endgame being basically completely RNG. Because in the end, it's the RNG that hurts you, just like it hurts others in drops, just like it hurt me in maps above 70 and so on. Can you try to sway the RNG? Yeah, sure... there are "best paths" to take, so you can minimise the crap that can happen to you. But in the end, it is still RNG, and there are no safety nets implemented, so theoretically you can be unlucky for a very long time, especially since drop rates/"crafting" successes are quite low.

Take this as you want, but my feeling from what I read from GGG is that they are quite happy with how this all works.

Which is exactly why I felt the need to post this thread. I am not sure if GGG realizes how much rng can hurt ppl like me.
Oh, I think they realise perfectly well. I could "accuse" GGG of many things, but stupidity is not one. But people being hurt by the RNG system is just a facet of hardcore design, IMO. Not to mention it helps GGG artificially prolong a game with very little content by re-randomising it and making you repeat it for a few times, then stalling your progress with lousy gear drops, no real crafting and itemised RNG endgame.
Just take a step away from the game and look at the ensemble. It is riddled with extreme RNG, no safety nets, no nothing.

I'm sorry, but it all looks very intentional from here :)

To each his own. Me personally, I am fine with MOST of an ARPG being RNG. That being said, I think it is a terrible, awful, horrible idea for any sort of content to be denied to some players simply because they are not lucky enough to gain access to it.

I am fine with drops, and crafting in their current state. I have spent thousands of fusing orbs working on my 6L armor, but when I finally got it all linked the feeling of accomplishment was amazing.

But I do realize there are 2 sides to every coin. I am probably more lucky in crafting than most people. But having shit luck with crafting doesn't prevent you from accessing endgame. You can save your currency and buy your gear. The same cannot be said for high level maps. I have yet to see 70+ maps for sale in trade chat. That is not to say there haven't been any, but it does prove that it isn't quite as easy to buy your way into endgame maps as it is to buy your way into gear capable of doing endgame.

I have, they cost 1 exalt. At this point, it's totally pay to play which I thought GGG was against...
I think you can buy whatever map you want :) I remember a 75 being around 3 exalts a months or so ago, dunno exactly, and a 70 around an exalt. Given the fact that most of us (let's say, at 80+ levels...) never saw a single exalt drop, and a 75 map is doable in 10-20 minutes with a decent char build, the prices look just about honest, decent and fair to me :)

As someone who enjoys mostly playing solo, I've just grown to accept I won't do maps over 70, at least not regularly. Also it's just not worth it. I like trying out different builds and the idea of spending it all on one to save some time seems idiotic to me.
Finished 17th in Rampage - Peaked at 11th
Finished 18th in Torment/Bloodline 1mo Race - peaked at 9th

Holy freaking god! That is insane. But when I think of how hard it is to get these maps, on top of how hard it is to roll them, that price starts to make sense. But it is completely out of the question for 99% of the population.

Whatever IIQ bonus you get on a map, you should get a matching XP bonus.

That means if you do the right thing and play difficult maps with good mods, you should be get a certain amount of guaranteed, non-RNG reward. However, I don't think that non-RNG reward should extend to items... even if those items are maps.

I also think vendors should sell maps when your level gets high enough, but that it shouldn't be endless -- just like the normal and magic weapons available, they should be finite in quantity and won't reset until you gain a level. With proper price-setting, this could ensure that players with bad luck have an out... but it's a limited out, so they still need to use currency on the maps they have.

I am not quite ready to accept this fate. I do enjoy alts, however I am unable to fund them gearwise. Besides, I found a build (my own) that I enjoy playing very much. I think I should be able to continue without struggling this much. On top of that, I want to see what the highest level maps have to offer in terms of challenge.

I know I don't speak for everyone. We all have our own way of having fun. I just hope I might be able to persuade GGG to have a look at my version.

I very much like this idea... In this way it really wouldn't matter if all I could sustain was 66 maps. I could still feel rewarded as I gain exp and continue to work my way towards higher maps. The time wouldn't really even be an issue. As it is right now, I am super frustrated that I am stuck running 67s again. With increased exp, I would be much less upset. I would still be pushing for the higher level maps, but the sting of being stuck in lower level ones would hurt less.

Biggest issue with end game content

1) doesn't favor solo/small group

2) 100% determinant by RNG <-- THE BIGGEST ISSUE

3) way too many maze maps

spent at least 10 exalts worth of currencies rolling maps and got almost nothing out of it

some maps arent even worth doing without maze..and alt/regal at high level usually guarantee no higher level map drops.
