Will there be P2W, yes when blizzard have milked the hype, they will add as many predatory microtransactions as humanly possible. As every single 'new' product released by blizzard is essentially a microtransaction simulator. D2R is not new. D3 had the real money item transaction market for a time which they took a near 100% cut of the transactions and that was almost 12 years ago. Since that time their methods have gotten worse not better for the consumer. Put it this way, PoE streamers after 28 hours have already completed everything D4 has to offer. Hype all you like with your "never played PoE" private account but at the end of the day I will bet PoE will be stacked with players next league after they have burned though the massive 30 hours content D4 has to offer. Seasons in D3 were all the same crap. D3R is going to be the same but with all the microtransaction nightmares they couldn't add to D3. This I will bet money on. |

No. But do I perfectly understand why some people believes/fears it? Of course I do. Not even close to "fascinating". "Blizz said"? Now that is a fascinating couple of words. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

OK lets say Blizzard don't change/add in-game mechanics that promote a heinously tedious gameplay loops made easier by paying more $$$$$. Lets say they drop the price to $40 and don't offer paid season passes (which is happening for a fact).
lets assume a company with the reputation of lying their arses off to pump cash out of whales somehow changed their entire business model for "insert my game". Lets assume a company that has NEVER been honest with their player base became altruistically honest about "insert my game". Lets assume my birth certificate has yesterdays date on it. I don't assume or take word. Read the full D4 terms and conditions and look for a legal statement along the lines of "subject to change monetary policy and transactions" or something like that. Some random PR Dev can tell you shit tastes like a candy bar which has absolutely no legal responsibility on the company. The 400 page terms and conditions you sign before you play, which they change to suit them on a whim is the kicker. BTW the Asian version of D3 was absolutely crammed to the roof with microtransactions, xp boosts etc. which would have made it to the western servers IF there wasn't massive legal repercussions for them doing so. The only reason D3 wasn't crammed with it was they stood to lose more money though legal action. People have really short memories it seems. I am happy to wait and see. If I am wrong I will probably buy it and hold my hands up. Lets see 6 months down the line. |

I think poe china has a loot pickup pet and other p2w aspects iirc that's just how it goes over there. nothing to do with legal action lol.

" Yeah, this is 100% about whether or not the player base is open to the possibility of heavy P2W elements; particularly for a publicly traded company. Shareholders don't give two shits about the integrity of the game -- just maximizing share value. The Chinese version of POE seems to be more about that player base being open to it, and Tencent caring more about maximizing revenue. It does seem like GGG maintained some sort of demarcation for the international version of POE. Or maybe I'm naive and it's purely because many of us would not accept it. Whatever it is, I'm glad for that separation. As for D4, it's way to early to know their long term monetization model. Near term, it will be initial unit sales, MTX and season passes. Next will be the normal expansion or two; hopefully including more than just a class release. But once they get into the longer term (like D3), how they continue to monetize is still a big question. D3 didn't give into heavy P2W. D2R on the other hand dove headfirst into the worst of P2W. D2R was more recent, but I'm not sure that is indicative of what is to come. We shall see. " What is not true in what I wrote? Core skills? You can't use them half the time due to depleted resource (Energy/Rage/Essence...). That's just another way to make skill effectively on cooldown. |
