If Mercs are/will be implemented I'd like to see a various different kind of Mercs depending on my gamestyle and my likings. Maybe a want a tank merc if I play a witch, or a DPS merc if I play a Marauder... I'd also like to see more customization and not just able to change gear... but maybe change its stats, the priority on spells and who to attack first. I'd like it to feel more personally, like he is more my companion and not just a random paid soldier i met.

I would like it if Mercs can be sent to town to sell items and buy ones that would benefit my gameplay. I would also like if Mercs can make me a pizza. It would be cool if they can help me with homeworks of any kind. And walk my dog. Thanks!

I think what Tormenta is getting at is when you have so much customization over the merc then it basically becomes a second character which is absolutely not what the point of a merc is. If you want to play two characters then buy a second PC and learn to control them both at once. Plenty of people already do that in the other MMOs.

Aye, but its not really another character because you dont controll him/her, its a AI. Following you around, your companion.

And if that was what he meant he could've just said so and not being such a rude ****

But you said that the player should be able to change gear, stats, spells, and who to attack. What else is there beside the menial task of basic pathfinding?

Well I didnt mean being able to change all that, more like prioritys...

If I want a defensive character, the merc/companion or whatever prior defensive stances/skills etc... if I want a offensive, he prior offensive attacks.

As to the stats, I meant more like... when you get the AI, you get to decide what kind of stats he will focus mostly on, If I want a defensive companion, He choose the defensive stats and so on...

Maybe my explaination was a bit weird in my previous post

Alternative take on friendly NPCs:

Rather than hiring them, they will join you temporarily for particular areas. While you're there, you - and anyone else who's around - can either give them gear to defend themselves and/or the town with, or attack them and try to get whatever gear they've collected (which, if the programmers are feeling ambitious, can be related to what the players have given them most recently).

I think what Tormenta is getting at is ...

There is no end to what one might want. I'm just showing how easy is to come up with unrealistic expectations. And assault the idea of mercs once more ):o=

But I have to say that I wouldnt like to see each player with his mercenary.
If mercenary are part of the game, I would prefer if they were temporaly allies.
You pay them to fallow you up for one instance and after that one, they leave.
Moreover, the number of mercenaries in cities would be limited, so not every player could hire some.
For example, in on city, there would be a pool of ~15 mercenaries.

i agree, temporary followers are a great idea. mercs should be restricted to 1 per party and i would love it if they are completly different from each other. you could hire a human merc in one town, or a demon from a warlock someplace else, or even a wolf from a druid you find in a forest, and all of them with unique abilities too, the wolf could howl and everyone gets +dmg, the demon could be so terrifing that enemys get -2armor or something like that.

escort quest would be nice too.
I really enjoyed Mercs in D2. I would really enjoy them making a comback in other titles..hint hint.

I never really relied on them to save my arse however, they were really fun to gear out and the occasional free kill was nice.

If they are not included at some point. It will just be a feature I miss from that other AWSOME game...

I kind of like the idea of my character being "The Hero." That doesn't need a side-kick to back him up. However, I do like the idea of meeting people that will fight for your group inside a dungeon.

I have nothing against mercenaries, I just feel their functionality isn't entirely required to make a fun game.

For example, selling stuff in the field, maybe PoE could have it's equivalent of a "scroll of wealth" with which to sell items.

But, I could see the argument both ways, it's more of a game-play experience preference, and either one would be fine with me.
Happy Days Abound.
Only problem is that its an item based economy not sure if that would work well.
Yes good sir, I enjoy slaying mythical creatures.
I love having mercenaries and hopefully they implement them in this game but regardless this will probably still be a great game without them.
