Mercs?

I don't understand why you guys think mercs don't fit into the lore. They don't have to be mercenaries per se right?
In times of despair, some people cling to the strong. After you kill a couple of bosses, you might find someone who wants to follow you in your adventures :)

What if a mercenary is not satisfied with the share and want it all for him and start to attack you?!


Some of you guyz are referencing to Diablo 2 mercenary system.
Maybe if some mercenaries are included to PoE they would act totally different and have a totally different purpose!

I would appreciate to pay a bunch of mercenary to help me out kill a hard boss.
But for the share of the loot I would always watch my back!

Not at all. I'm sure it's a losing battle as far as my point of view. I know most players aren't so antisocial that they don't even want NPCs in their party.

You could show the poll at the top of every page.

Mercs could be interesting if done properly. I'm not really sure what that would entail off the top of my head. I like the idea that mercs wouldn't always be with you and you need to pay them as you go.

Ultimately, if it would delay the beta than don't worry about it yet. For now I'd rather see the effort go into getting the classes just right and adding more monsters. Mercs can always be added in later.

The problem is that if having mercenaries is an actual advantage, everyone will be forced to have one in a game that is intended to be really hard. Also to have that kind of companion (one that makes things easier)would conspire against the oppresive mood of the game.

Personally, I don't find having mercs that much attractive idea. I like mowing trough enemies with my weapon as only companion. Lonewolf attitude and stuff.

But I guess there are players who like having a merc, so I can only add small suggestion on that matter.

Maybe it would be possible to hire a merc, once a day, for a hefty sum of money / resources, for 15 or 30 minutes, to help you with harder areas of the game. If he dies, that's it. If he survives, after 15 / 30 min of the "rent time", he would break his contract, and leave you. Alone.

In addition to an up front fee (which could be paid with gold or items) they could reduce the amount of loot dropped (by 30-60%) to represent their share of the loot. They may also choose to not help you with boss monsters like Brutus.

I m voted yes because give nice armor and weapon chosse deff or attack skill merc is fun and good for gameplay.(Magic guy + Armored merc) (Armored guy + Magic merc) (Fast guy + Bowman merc) This is so good for PVP in diablo 2 is without merc's deff skill survive a lot harder (on big level like 99 not)
