Example: LAYERS

~ 30% Dual Wield Block Chance (base is 15%, so you have to get more from other sources)
~ 35% Evasion
~ 34% attack dodge via Vaal Grace (use as a panic button, if one runs out of flasks = has no other way of mitigation)
= 99% mitigation against Projectile Attacks, alone.

you add effects that stack multiplicatively

correct number is 70%

exactly this

hit calculation against players work like this:

the attack first rolls monster acc vs eva chance,if the attack passes this check it becomes a "hit"

now the player has a chance (if he gets the stat from items, buffs or passiv tree) to dodge the hit and after the hit passed this check the attack can be blocked

spells obviously skip the eva check and only spell equivalents work against them

for full hit calculation it doesnt matter if it checks dodge or block first the total chance to get hit in the end stays the same

poe´s wording is actually very exact, when you learn the basics
only bonuses with the same name that dont include more or less can stack additively

i.e. block will never stack with dodge, but dodge from vaal grace will stack with dodge from acrobatics

Also, damage avoidance isn't the same as damage mitigation. Both are awesome (and important) but it's very important not to confuse the two.

ofc, mitgation kicks in after all sources of avoidance failed.
I'm genuinely curious, what kind of builds struggle with porcupines? Every build I played either has high block/dodge, high armor, stacks endurance charges, uses cold spells or any other corpse destroying mechanic, or has totems/minions meatshielding most of the needles. I can't think of a build that I'd ever play that doesn't have any of those.

Bad ones, obviously lmao. I've found that a lot of migrants from other ARPGs build glass cannons because they're used to having mitigation spoonfed to them simply by stacking attributes.

Dys an sohm
Rohs an kyn
Sahl djahs afah

I am amused by the fact that monsters in this game are frequently more dangerous dead than alive.

Without mitigation (and even with in some cases, example: 7endurance charges 8k life berserker build of mine) the only thing that has a chance of keeping you alive against porcupines is corpse removal.

My trickster has lightning coil as only mitigation, and absolutely laughs at porcupines, I can jump in a pack of 10+ of them with damage mods in the map and I barely feel anything.

And Trickster's passive cannot proc more than three times simultaneously.

Said mitigation, meant defences. 8k life doesn't count as mitigation in your definition right?

About your trickster, nice build but seems to have fortify, immortal call and evasion + trickster dodge stuff apart from what you've already mentioned (LC + trickster stuff).

If you're running a build without most of that stuff corpse removal is the solution. Also helps in delves from what i hear.
I'm a forum warrior, i was born to post, raised to defend my league. Now my post has been removed, chained and exiled by mods who Ban. Ban is my brother; i do not fear it. I see it in the eyes of men and beasts that i troll. It will take me to play the actual game when i am ready and i am not ready.

I was talking about mitigation indeed, I don't include buffer in that.

Yeah, Trickster is pretty tanky thanks to that ( it was still in HC until yesterday t__t I think I took about ~20k phys pre-mitigation dmg from the last red elder phase within a second because I was trying to dodge the 'out-of-the-circle' slam and was less mobile ... ),

Corpse removal ( I guess it needs to be instant in the case of porcupines ) is also a great defence in this case, but anyway I would not play a build with no mitigation ... that seems like a very bad idea to me, layered ideally of course.

Very true and sadly very common mistake.

For me avoidance (dodge/evasion/block) is something that I build ontop of mitigation (phys/resists/guard skills)
Avoidance without mitigation is a pure lottery for me...

Simpified how I look at it.

Mitigation:
some damgage, some damage, some damage.

Avoidance:
avoid, avoid, full damage. <- quite often oneshot

Mitigation + avoidance:
avoid, some damgage, some damage.
holy shit, op invested dozens of ex into his build, now everything in the game should explode as soon as he even watches into its direction. oh, this game has some mob packs that you cant brainlessly leap slam into. nerf!

i would propose to ggg to make more dangerous mobs, and some mobs that can, at last, fight with offscreen tornado shotting, proximity shields are ok but its not enough, those mobs should hit like a truck, so 3k hp mf ts fellows would be annihilated.

and so on. i can agree with some players that the game became too easy (aside maybe from some boss encounters). its just zoom-zooming packman style.

this league some legion mobs with huge damage are OK, but its not enough. players should feel FEAR when encountering near-endgame content.
dead game
