Unplayable Lag/Sync Issues

Thanks for the replies. I'm also glad I found out what the issue was. Been battling this issue for months. It's a huge relief that I can finally control it.

For some reason using Vuze instead of uTorrent fixes this issue completely. Could be some bug with uTorrent, who knows. Thought I just throw this info in here.

Interesting - a quick google brought this up, may be worth checking out? Although if Vuze works you could just stick with that.

If the above works then my initial guess was wrong =)
Number of connections is definitely a common lag-casuing-problem. It used to be a big problem for my WRT54GL router when I was using the stock firmware, but after I put Tomato on it, it was fine. The stock firmware didn't timeout connections fast enough so they just piled up until the router died and then had to be restarted.

I'm currently playing with Vuze open and, according to the router, there's ~350 connections across all the computers connected and it's fine, but I've been fine with a lot more connections active. I haven't paid too much attention to how many connections the router can handle. All I can

The lag issue would start about 5 seconds after opening uTorrent. It wouldn't even be connected to anyone yet. I could close uTorrent and even shut off the computer that had it running. I checked the router once after closing uTorrent and there was less than 50 connections active but the lag spikes were still there. I've been discovering more things that experience the lag spikes and disconnects, but PoE and Tera were the only things that I didn't want lagging.

Maybe in the future I'll do some more testing with uTorrent, but it's tedious having to change the router's MAC and reset the modem after every change or whatever.

----

edit: Spoke to soon. Vuze spawns the lag also. The 'tipping' point for Vuze, I believe, was when I added a few more torrents to it (so about 5 total) since I only had 1 in there before. Connections weren't too crazy from what I could tell which was about 200.

I did a quick test after getting a new IP and fixing the lag. Literally 5 seconds after opening uTorrent or Vuze, the lag spikes start again.

Changing my router's MAC and resetting the modem (getting a new IP) remains the only way to fix the lag issue. I've tried the following to make sure:
- Closing uTorrent/Vuze and then restarting the computer.
- Resetting router and modem.

Can my modem/ISP simply 'tag' my current IP to be awful? Or is this something else entirely.

Another bump with an actual fix to my problem.

Someone from another forum suggested the problem may stem from the DHT in uTorrent. I opened uTorrent with DHT turned off and no torrents loaded. Good, no spikes. Turned DHT on and almost instantly the spikes were back. I still had to get a new IP from my modem even after turning uTorrent and DHT off, though.

Emailing you some info now as I am getting pretty bad lag and crashes to logon screen as described. Very annoying.

Could I get you both to send me some MTR output? Preferably taken while you're experiencing problems in game.

You can download WinMTR from here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/winmtr/files/

To use it just run the appropriate exe (32 bit or 64 bit), enter the hostname in the "Host" box, and click start.

Once the "Sent" column shows at least 50 click "Copy Text to clipboard", and paste the results into an email to support@grindinggear.com (you can then just close WinMTR).

- Edit
I would like you to get output for the game server you are currently connnected to. To get the server's IP, go to the folder you installed PoE in and open the "logs" subfolder, then open the "Client.txt" file. The file will probably be quite large, but scroll to the bottom and find the last occurance of this line:

2012/03/27 10:33:25 3917590 50 [INFO Client 3768] Connecting to instance server at 127.0.0.1:12345

In this example the server is 127.0.0.1 (do NOT test with that IP though, it's just an example). Use the IP you find there in WinMTR in the "Host" box.
- End edit

Thanks if you're able to do this, if you have any problems with it let me know.
The more I test things out and the more I read on this the more I think this is hardware related for me. Lag spikes have been common in my day to day gaming/computing I think mainly because my lack of RAM and VRAM for some games. I have also read on the forums that the server boots you after being inactive for a certain amount of seconds. Most of the time I experience decently fluid game play with the exception of some crazy 15-20 second computer lockups from time to time. I usually work through these in most games, taking the death and running back to where I was. Well It seems that in my case, as I monitor my system RAM and VRAM/GPU usage during game it constantly takes up 1.92GB/2GB system memory and almost all of my measly 320GB VRAM. As a lockup occurs, I notice my GPU drop to 0% activity and 10-20 seconds after my computer stops throwing a fit I get booted to the login screen.

I think it would also be best that people not only describe their network equipment and connection locations but also their hardware specifications as best and as detailed that they can so that the community can compare computer specs to try and relate them to their own specific issues.

If I have my display resolution at 1680x1050 I have about 1-5 minutes before I know it will throw me out to the login screen. If I set my resolution down to 1440x900 I can get a pretty good 45-60 minutes of game play before my systems lags out and it hangs until login screen.
Same problem here... keep getting DC every 10-30 mins..It's totally unplayable!

Hello, my problems are not as aggrevated as for some other people here, but it gets worse as you progress with levels (And things start moving faster).

I don't have any tracerts right now, but I did test this MTR, I was actually running it all the time while playing and spikes in the mtr never coincided with ingame rubberbanding/teleporting. Never ever. Even that F1 display never shows spikes when bad stuff occurs and I usually am well below 100ms.

Also I got very high pings from some of the stuff in your datacenter, its somewhere in netherlands or around I think for EU right?

Anyway it seems to me that some small udp packet loss translates into lots of trouble later on, stuff teleporting etc. When I have tons of time I will try to go through a session, but shouldn't we be troubleshooting UDP not TCP? Since it hardly matters what is happening on TCP links. Routers can be shaping stuff differently.

Also never had such problems in LoL for example. Except when they had problems with their datacenter.
hey all i think i figured it out.

i keep desynchronize when i am quickly whirling blading around.
so every once and a while it causes me to get stuck and not able to move at all or even pick up items or select things on the ground. so i got stuck a few ago...

And i noticed my caps lock was on. i turned it off to type to my friend to tell him i had to relog,b/c i am stuck and all of a sudden it was caps when caps lock was off. So i started to push buttons, and it seems when i hit control. This made caps lock go off. when i hit shift and control it reset back to normal. i was no longer stuck.

So after this last patch when the mouse was changed some how its messed up the keyboard, or when they switched the keys to not effect when chatting(control, alt or shift). this is causing an error loop i am thinking. almost a deadlock sorta. maybe i am wrong on that but i have been able to reproduce so far once. i am going to keep trying to get it to do it again. Ill report back soon with a /debug SS as well.

Chris.
