I have done this map for the first time this league and my first thought was that the other bosses should be more like this one... The fight involved lots of running around and hiding behind trees. I prefer things like this over "kill before any mechanics occur" tactic that can be applied in many other encounters or "just leech faster than you are being damaged".

Yes!!!!

I'm a fan of Torture Chamber Boss / Orchard Boss designs
(in case GGG overhauls map bosses again at some point, TC boss is lightning degen beam squid, Orchard boss is Izaro's butt-buddy by herself, with a similar fire degen beam)

Posted this a half month before Atlas released... They didn't do it far enough. Almost every boss should start having mechanics that prevent it being a faceroll unless you simply outdps and outregen/leech any damage they do. And that shouldn't be something only op meta builds can do obviously. Once you are steamrolling t10+ t1 map bosses usually end up feeling like absolute cakewalks. We could still have that, will a little more challenge (and maybe a bigger loot pile from bosses) while leveling.

No he doesn't.

First time i found a lair, i vaaled it to receive the atlas bonus.

Rolled 3 damage mods, no leech and increased accuracy/unlucky dodge.

Now for some context, my char is a acro based(66%) vaal pact leech build.

Ran the entire map by swapping blood magic to my cyclone(since you cant mana leech either) even cleared a physical breach and downed the boss(first time encounter) without dying.

How hard is it to stand behind a tree when he does the wolf beam? How hard is to denie bleeds when in wolf form?

This is just a skill check and nothing more, boss is pretty much harmless if you follow his patterns accurately.

Peace,

Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes
I don't get how someone can find this boss scary even if you fuck up the mechanics.

0 mitigiation and recovery?
Perception is reality.

it is not new. It is here at least since act 4.

What is it with his wolf spam thing?

I mean sometimes it deals no damage then next time it can eat through a huge life/ES pool + leech in no time. And in the same map.

Does he have a baby version and a big daddy version? Or is it a snapshotting thing?

I never understood.
Casually casual.

I think it is more a hitbox issue, Anu.
U MAD?
Yeah good luck with this. He's like the old, pre-nerfed Torture Chamber boss when that laser beam would just eat you alive. Then they nerfed him and now I can tank it easy, even on pretty weak builds. Then you had the doge and chicken on the ruins map. That thing was the worst. How many times I ripped to that stupid boss. Even Chris too posted on Reddit about ripping to it in like a second. And they left it alone.

Welcome to PoE man.

I can sort of tank the Rigwald wannabe but I find little reward worth the risk. Plus he turns into a wolf with that annoying af bleed and all the other crap. Honestly that fight is tuned so bad it should guardian level. And then you have the dark forest boss which is a beefed up version, as if the Lair wasn't bad enough.

Yeah... balance at it's finest kappa.

On a serious note, I think they meant the tuning to be so off the charts because of the pattern of his attacks. You have to hide behind the trees to block his spray just like Dominus. Then when he turns into a wolf and chases you, best to lure him to a spot and then jump the stream at the last second, that will screw him over and he won't be able to reach you before he goes back.

So I think they doubled up his damage so you would have to play the mini game of hide and seek.

Action? In my Action Role Playing Game? That sounds awful.

This boss doesnt like the "current meta sponge builds".

Something like Aegis build with Deaths Door can probably facetank him with any map mods.

yeah pretty much.

I guess no one in this group is playing a build with any sort of meaningful attack mitigation.

someone in a thread posted about being able to tank through dark forest rigwald with vaal pact, and that the only way u could tank that was with vp. So I rolled a map, went in there with an armour + evasion hybrid character to see what was up. I just basically stood in the wolf beam over and over again without attacking back, no leech, no fortify up, I dont think I even used defense flasks. Sometimes it did 0 damage, sometimes I lost maybe 1k, 2k life by the time he was finished, it was trivial.

If you have good physical attack mitigation layered with good attack avoidance you can just stand in the wolf spray from my experience, the only thing you need to retreat from is the invincible wolf form that applies corrupting blood.

I think he basically shits on int centered defense builds and is a piece of cake for duelist centered builds. So when you look at it that way and look at the general vibe of popular opinion on defenses what they should actually do is make an awful lot more bosses and monsters like this, extremely fast amounts of mid strength physical attack damage. You dont need to nerf es or buff evasion or armour or block, just get their monster balance in line by removing unfair elemental 1 shots and putting in a lot more scary damage that life based defenses actually mitigate.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
There are trees there. Hide behind them when he starts his wolf spam. he stays still during this effect so it is easy to get out of the way.

Dog form carry bleeding flasks and use a basalt or some phys mitigation.

You may get killed every once in a while, but that is mainly do to map mods and how many map mods are actually bad on Rigwald compared to other bosses.

Map mods that are easy on other maps make you think twice on that one.

That fight is more mechanical than most...the arena is well designed and there is plenty of room to dodge stuff.

You guys got wrecked because you are used to running up to bosses and having them die in 2 seconds in other maps.
