Chemo is such a horrid process. It can save lives when it works, but when it doesn't, it always seems like unnecessary torture that makes you even weaker. Did you do the pills, injections, or both? At any rate, so sorry to hear man. Life isn't fair, but in the end we'll all be in the same place, together. Still, keep fighting for each day. Every time you kill a mob in PoE, just imagine killing another cancer cell. Keep fighting.

I had two cycles of chemo. The first one (Folfox) was after my initial operation in the hope that the cancer would not spread elsewhere. I had 6 sessions at Guy's in London, 1 session every two weeks. I tolerated it pretty well. I did get some apart from some mild nausea but the anti sickness pills were pretty effective in that regard. One of the drugs in the chemo combo makes things feel very cold to the touch and can give you some neuropathy. I had that mildly.

The second cycle (Folfiri) was also six sessions. This is a second line treatment and I new from looking it up on the internet that the odds of it doing anything for me were not that great - about 24% of people who have not responded to Folfox get any benefit. Once again I tolerated it pretty well. The main thing was that most of my hair fell out. Although I am 61 I am still a child of the late 60s/early 70s and have always kept my hair long. Indeed, until the 2nd chemo I had a pony tail. It was somewhat of a shock when upon combing my hair one day I Discovered great clumps of it coming out. You don't notice it straight away because it does not just drop out on its own. Rather it comes out and stays matted in the rest of your hair. As soon as I discovered what was happening I got the kitchen scissors and cut what was rest of my pony tail of there and then. Although to be fair by that time it would not really have qualified as a Chinese pig tail :)

All the chemo was done IV. It takes a couple of hours in hospital for the initial dose to go in. That goes in via a PICC line (peripherally inserted central catheter). That basically is a very fine tube that has been inserted into a vein in your arm and ends up just above your heart. It takes about 15 minutes or so for the specialist to put it in. He uses an ultrasound machine to make sure that it is going where it should do. All this is done under a local anesthetic. After the line has been put in you have to go for an x-ray to make sure all is well as there is a point where the vein splits into two and if it takes the wrong route the line ends up in your neck rather than just above your heart.

So yes, in my case the chemo did exactly diddly squat and of course had I known that that was what was going to happen then I would not have had it. But the desire to live is very strong so of course I would try anything if it offered me any hope.

Thank you so much to all the other people that have replied to me. Even though we have never met or corresponded before it gives me a lot of comfort.

Anyways, I will end this novel now. I have in fact just woken up after getting about 3 hours sleep. It's 3.45 am here in the UK and I am going to go some more (cancer) mobs for a couple of hours until my pain killers kick in.

As I said previously I was in two minds whether to start this thread and assumed that I was going to get a lot of "fake thread/troll looking for some freebies" type replies but have been so pleased that that has not been the case.

More power to us POE players !

3.13 was the pinnacle of PoE. IVYS+1 Gang 4 Life.
Just thought that I would add a quick update as to how my character is progressing.

He is 66% of the way to 91 now. I really wish that I had discovered this setup earlier. He is a real tanky incinerate marauder. He has 7.2K life, 21K armour by default and incinerate tooltip is showing 13K dps. He used to be an incinerate totem build and was doing pretty well but I got fed up of dying to sudden physical burst damage. Especially from those damn armadillo spike shooting mobs.

With 21k armour I now like any mob that does physical as I have 67% damage reduction - more with a granite although I very rarely have to use that. I can also not bother with endurance charges and pretty much just face tank everything, The build also uses 6 jewels all of which I have used life jewels on. I get 820 life per second from life regen.

If I had found this build earlier - well found is not exactly right as most of it I have done myself - then I would have got to 100 a long time ago. Mind you in saying that the build has not been exactly cheap. Probably spent about 50 ex on it so it's just as well I have a MF character that I use to farm The Dried Lake when I need currency.
I am sorry to hear about your situation. I have lost family members to cancer and know that it is a difficult thing to go through. I wish you strength to endure and overcome this horrible disease and the tranquility to find peace through this chaotic time. If you ever need any help or currency just let me know. I don't have much but I'll gladly give you what I have.

Thank you so much for those kind words and the offer of help/currency. I will decline if you don't mind. Not because I don't appreciate what you have offered it's just that I want to get to 100 without help as it will be all the sweeter.

Besides, as I have been playing for such a long time I am not short of currency or maps. I currently have about 30 maps T10 and above and maybe 30 ex or so in currency. And I would not like to be accused of making a fake post just to get some freebies.

Once again, many thanks for your kind offer. It is because of people like you that I started this thread. It is so nice to get encouragement and kind words.

I have very little hope left for my situation but my heart is certainly uplifted by the wonderful community out there.

Wiz.
