The Divination Card Easteregg

Id like to adress the divination card droprates as they are currently:

Sadly I feel I have to join the other whiners. I spent the last two months before the 2.0 biting my fingernails in anticipation of the divination cards. When The awakening finally went live, I jumped in right away with my q183/r230 char and noticed that card droprates arent tied to quantity -.-

Well, I tried to stay optimistic and continued farming. The first divination card dropped on day three!!! I am a member of a fairly big german guild of hardcore gamers and thus at least got to see my first divination card in the guild chat on day two...

I have been a generous supporter of this game for a long time now and hope GGG takes our complaints seriously:

Divination Cards are at this point no more then an easteregg. The only players who where able to farm several Jack in the Box sets every day, where hardcore no lifers. The droprate nerf is just one more step in the continued process of making this really good game frustrating for casual gamers who will most likely only get a good set completed, if they use the equally frustrating trading system to collect them. Yay Acquisition!

Divination cards could have really been another layer of awesome, as GGG likes to say, but the way they drop atm, they have become irrelevant.

I could just be another whiner, but I dont think im alone on this one. Plz take our complaints into consideration GGG!!

So you didn't get the "I win!" button you expected?
Poor you...

As divination carts are now, they keep the 'excitement' value up when finding them. Since they're rare, their appearance is something you notice, and something that'll generate a little bit of excitement when you find one.

That's worth FAR more to the game than satisfying the desires of a currency farmer...

I farmed Voll literally 24 hours non-stop and found more high end uniques than I found Voll cards. Like, literally. I found a perfect Grasp, Binos, Marohi, and shitloads of good rares all from Voll. During that whole time, I got ONE Voll card. And I was skipping all the mobs, leap slamming immediatly to Voll within 20-30 seconds to the start of the instance so.... yeah. The drop rates are pretty astronomically bad. I must have killed Voll close to 20000 times and I still got only 1 card rofl.

If anything, it's all just another ploy to force people to trade by GGG.

Given there are 86400 seconds in 24 hours, I seriously doubt that.

Also, your argument is basically that rare items shouldn't be rare... and you don't provide any reason for it...

The deck of cards should have a comparable rarity to the item which it trades for. This means that a single card of a deck of eight should be approximately eight times as common as the actual item.

Now unless Voll's devotion is eight times as rare as other uniques, it hardly makes sense to make the cards as rare as or rarer than the actual item dropping.

No, they should not, because that would mean a doubling of the number of the item dropped in total.
GGG seem to have picked a much lower rate, which makes sense, though they should also have decreased the droprate of the normal items that could now be gotten through divination cards to compensate.

Increasing drop rates doesn't make anyone 'richer', since it affects everyone. It just creates inflation...

Voll's Devotion doesn't drop any more in standard, so its rarity is actually 'never'... It trades for 20EX+, so even finding 1/8th in 24 hours seems quite high to me, especially since the previous rate was 0.

These cards should be very, very rare. Otherwise, it'd be like filling up a %-meter bar towards item XX. I don't like divination cards as a concept at all regarding ITEMS.

Besides, me and two mates did maelstrom - found 6 or 7 "the lover" cards. Plus two or three others.

Cyzax actually grasps the core problem - the item will no longer just be a drop. It will also become a part-drop.

I don't know, I saw grinding Div cards to be a way for otherwise Poor players to acquire items which can get them to the next level of gameplay.

There's a huge economic gap between people with a 1-5ex budget for gear and people with a 20-50ex budget for gear per build.

Take for example my axe ~320 dps 1h.

This sells for 1-5ex. I got it before I knew what it was worth from someone who I think pitied my poverty and sold it for like 30c.

I sit at approximately 30kdps with my build.

Not bad, not great, the rest of that character's gear totals at probably 10ex, it's been an accrual process which has taken three months of grinding and trading.

I'm sitting at a brick wall at level 84 where more anything costs so much I cannot afford it. Just the concept of a decent 6l chest is prohibitive at 30ex. Which is more time efficient, grinding 7 Div cards for that chest? 5 Div cards for a Soul Taker? Or trying to grind the currency to trade.

You're talking about an economy where Poor is ~1ex net worth, middle class is 5-10ex, and wealthy is 100ex+

You're also talking about a method to wealth, a method to success. GGG likes it Hard and Slow. I think they have the drop rate right where they want it.
Pre nerf to the jack in the box divination cards, I have farmed Dock more or less 200 times and I get 3 sets of Jack in The box only. Of course, all the uniques not even worth mentioning and vendored.

I also farmed Dried Lake for 150 times and find no Volls card. The divination card is as rare as the real unique. I think GGG can just state that good divination cards are meant for trading and collect only.

What a waste of time. Purely a fail in Awakening release.

Bunny
