Skyrim VS PoE
Skyrim is all the blunder I thought it'd be and more. Turns out the game was a really low quality port from consoles, and it contains so many bugs, glitches, exploits, and balance problems that unless you play the game with your eyes closed you'll run into a problem every 2 minutes... albeit most players don't care and might just overlook it.
The game looks fairly good, but ironically enough, it could have looked MUCH better... the mod community has shown that with a few basic changes the game looks vastly better. So even a strength that it does have is overshadowed by the low quality they put into the game. The environment engine has a ton of glitches that are clearly caused by Bethesda just copy and pasting code, as the environment issues function identically to previous issues in their engines. Their highly touted radiant systems do work... sometimes. When they don't it's embarrassingly bad. The ONE thing this game has going for it if you ignore all the problems is that it has a lot to do packed into the relatively small area of skyrim. However even that is under scrutiny. The state of the elder scroll games is currently due to their refocusing and primary development for consoles. It's really sad that such a large innovative game ends up like this (severely constrained due to consoles.) I don't want to call Skyrim 'junk' because it's better than other games... however that's not saying much because the bar has been lowered to the point of invisibility. Elder Scrolls contain more potential than most game franchises... and they squandered it with their last few games (and Fallout.) The cost of development for this game might be say, 100 million dollars maximum... but they're going to make 400-500 Million... I just don't understand how this game is worth that much and what they will do with such huge revenue from their last few games. Can't compare two completely different games tho, but since I'm not a beta member, but watched quite a few videos, I'd say that Skyrim might give the best experience in a short period, say a couple of months, while PoE could provide entertainment (also with friends) over a longer period of time.
50/50 The human brain is amazing.
It functions 24 hours for 365 days. It functions right from the time we were born & only stops when we... ...Take exams. |

They both look to be the same good quality and they both are rpgs - but probably should not be compared side by side.

I used to play Skyrim a lot, and I'm playing the modded version, with even better graphics (not many gameplay inventions are out still, though), but eventually PoE won over my heart, and I'm back here :)
Anyway, Skyrim is a lifetime adventure, it could be still great to play even after several years, with even better mods around, new quests, new experiences... Let's see what will make PoE that great after same amount of time! BTW, I got bugged in Skyrim only once, in one particular cage the game was crushing time after time when I was reaching a certain point... fortunately, the cave had another entrance on the opposite side, so I could eventually clear it, anyway. To mention, Oblivion was the first game that forced me to exchange my old graphic card to be able to play it, back those times... Proud Beta tester. They can't really be compared. Skyrim is more set in a first person view, while POE is set in third person. Also, they are very different in gameplay and Skyrim is more open-world.

I hated skyrim only 17 hours played, never tried Path of Exile, but from what I've seen, poe wins.

I got bored of Skyrim
Spoiler
Skyrim was fun for the first few hours, but it has serious flaws (aside from the absolutely trash interface). Some of the perks were simply "increase [attibute] by x%" instead of interesting things i.e bow slow-mo, and really didn't change gameplay at all, almost as if there was no real customization in game.
Combat was a bit formulaic. I played as an archer/melee, all I did was point and shoot arrows and use melee power attacks when I had stamina.
Spoiler
IDC that it won GOTY, it was a pretty crappy ceremony tbh.
and PoE isn't even done yet. |

Comparing 2 different games, is like comparing brie cheese to yoghurt :) Each does what it does best. Skyrim for one had me busy for quite a while. But it loses steam throughout the end. bethesda's solution to that is to release dlc which I am waiting for. This game on the other hand has randomized stuff/pvp elements and such. In terms of playability and having actual fun multi player, I would go for this game. But for solo'ing I would rather play Skyrim so that I won't be bothered while grinding etc.

I cant even compare the games. Totally different.
I can see I enjoy both of them. Have played skyrim about 100 hours or so. Lets toss some steam here, Skyrim is not rpg - you cant choose role in it, only weapon / skills that you KILL enemies. but I quess its the state of PC rpgs - they are adventure games with character development. Always wondered how character development (or worst yet, classes) makes RPG. They can make good games but not ROLE playing games, Oh well... |
