PS: only someone who played AA can understand where I am coming from, hacks here are nothing compared to regular benefits/exploits of the game mechanics people abuse legally.

So you mean, just like the cheaters get a double false sense of achievement, the anti-cheaters have double first world problems? Ugh.
I steal my food.

I cheat my taxes.

I cheat on my wife.

I hack bitches phones.

I don't cheat in PoE. That's taking it too far.
I find all these topics about cheating to be quite pointless.

Not only does PoE have minimal and almost nonexistant cheating compared to other games/mmos, the devs actively ban and have been vocally against cheating since closed beta. Many games have devs that even allow RMT to exist on their own forums and take the stance to pretty much ban no one.

It seems like many have these insane expectations that GGG can eradicate cheating in a free game that has trading(including rmt). It's not going to happen.

People cheat in games because they do not want to cheat in real life. Its similar to beating a prostitute in GTA, you won't do it in real life. Living a life outside of realism is what gaming is about. Driving fast cars etc etc.

So it doesn't make a person a "piece of shit" because they cheat in a game. Gaming cheats have been around long before the internet.

Now because this game is overly competitive, it creates another scenario. Its more like stealing (theft) than cheating. In a way this game mirrors real life. Life is full of scammers, thieves and generally unsavory people. Don't forget killers (PK'ers).

So what I'm saying is that a guy who maphacks and uses the stuff for himself (does not involve other people) is hardly a piece of shit..he just enjoys the game differently. Problem is, how do you distinguish the one from the other..

Dude, face it. Cheaters = piece of shit. face it. You are just not reaching the awareness of it yet.

Let's say you have been playing for 2 weeks, farmed the shit out of yourself because you wanted an item so bad.

Then a piece of shit(a cheater) in-game comes along and makes a troll face at you and outbid your offer of the item by tenfold.

What do you call him? A very pure-hearted guy who enjoys the game in a different way than you? I am really baffled by your logic

Read the 3rd paragraph again and also the 1st sentence of the last paragraph. You should be less baffled then. :)
I'm wondering if you'd say the same thing when you play a board-game with some people, or cards, and one of them cheats:"Leave him be, he just enjoys the game differently..."? Sure.

Ok, maybe its not as clear as I seem to think.

What I'm saying is that there are different types of "cheating". One is fine like if you want no damage on your car in a racing simulator or godmode in GTA.

The other is maphacks to gain items to sell to other players (with possible economic implications). This one is not so fine.

But what if it is a solo player that never engages the community or the economy? He is basically "playing the game how he sees it as fun" and the implications for other players is nil. I'm fine with that.

Its just not viable to make it GGG's problem to distinguish between the solo player (harms no one) and the player that engages the community and economy.

I hope this is at least slightly clearer now.

Spot the one that is not the "piece of shit". Hopefully its easier now.
I think people who defend cheaters here should have their accounts checked out by the staff. They display suspicious affinity.

I missed the part in the brackets about not involving other people. I fully agree with you there.

Yes, I typed the original post in a bit of a hurry so I'm not surprised by the confusion. My bad.

Breaking the rules is still breaking the rules. That's all there really is to it.
