How many times can you play those FPS though. My fav was farCry played through like 20x in a month had enough. The bioshock series I really like too but its totally different. more like an event like a movie than major active participation like a ARPG has. I dont know how to describe it but basically you get way more value for money with games liek these.

How many time you go to FPS forums? Theory craft? nah just mindlessly play.

1. Sacrifice
2. warcraft 3 custom maps
3. warcraft 3
4. guild wars 1
5. PoE
Diablo 2 isnt better that POE. It was best 10+ years before poe comes. Poe has deeper mechanics, more items, more content.
Honestly not played a games as much as PoE since WoW even the next best are only a few hundred hours, WoW and PoE are into the thousands.
Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi

He who controls the pants controls the galaxy. - Rick & Morty S3E1
Voice of minority here...

I played a MUD (text based game accessed through telnet, GMUD, etc.) that was true cutthroat. When you died to someone, you lost everything. Uber Items were 'limited' meaning there were only so many of them in the whole game and you had to kill others for them. RP was mandatory [punishable with deletion on the extreme cases]. Telling anyone who you were (PBH for anyone who remembers that acronym) was strongly frowned upon, usually punished.

Visual/graphics based games add a ton of things to gaming but unfortunately replace imagination with another person's visualizations.

The time of MUD has ended, gone the way of dinosaurs. I completely understand it though because the interface was very limiting in some fashions (example: huge fights caused infinitely long walls of text scrolling very very fast).

Loved that game.

POE is definitely up there for me. Definitely the current #1 and seems to have some staying power.
Thanks for all the fish!

I really like the pvp, feel, more accessible endgame, classes, art of diablo 2, but the skill-gem system and passive tree of PoE is brilliant. If you could combine diablo 2 at it's peak with the skill-gem system and passive tree, it would be a game I'd play for the rest of my life.

I kinda liked the economy/trading of diablo 2 more aswell, even if it was infested with dupes and bots. Endgame items are extremely expensive in PoE. Been playing for like 6 months, still only have like 10 ex combined, but maybe that's a good thing.

NUFF SAID

Oh man, this brings back some memories. This dominated our dorms in Freshman year of college.

We played for hours and is responsible for me struggling to stay awake in my 0800 Psychology 101 course.

To keep it going, we created our own games within the game. My most favorite being 'Team Defend the Bathhouse"

Team holding the bathhouse in Facility (technically called washroom) at the end of the buzzer won. Winning team stayed on while losers rotated off for another team to come try to take it away.

License to kill/pistols/DK Mode/Turbo/Paintball

Oddjob was off limits always. Winning team had to take Jaws, with DK mode was damn near impossible to stay alive. Big oaf.

If a team dominated for too long, they had to do slappers only.

So much fun.
Thanks for all the fish!

RO1, D2 and Gunz was the glorious games of my life. Nothing will really be able to replace them no matter how much time that pass.

Who would theory craft in a shooter game? Right tactics to take out any enemy and youre good to go.

I wouldnt call it "mindless" play either, bioshock games and my all time favorite NOLF have great stories that keep the brain on alert.

Mindless is what most people make their builds around in POE, 1 button smash 6L item builds for example. You dont need a specific genre of a game to label it as "mindless".
