Location save on quitting game/DC.
Instead of implementing what you suggested, what do you think about my alternate solution post here earlier that change any active portal upon disconnection to persist until the instance has been removed: Extend the duration of idle instance to 30 mins ~ 1 hour temporily.? Or another post that talked about the same thing: Portals should persist through DC
Pants are for nephalem, we are exiles, we do not need pants.

That would help but only a bit. In situations when i didn't use portal and when i need to quit it wouldn't help so i think my suggestion is overall more usefull and would like to see it implemented more (but yoours would be nice too)

Unless the way they do things changes too much, none of this is really possible without re-writing how the game handles instances. The only "persistant" instances in the game are the towns, everything else is generated as needed when you go there, thus, when you log out, all of your instances go "POOF" and you go back to town. Mostly this is done to help keep server loads lower per player, as longer instance persistance would require more server resources per player. The game doesn't really see a difference between a player logging out, and a player disconnecting, so once you lose the small window from a quick logout/login, all your previous instances are gone.

" But how you going to save your location upon quiting? The randomness is the essence of this game. What if you logout in the middle of bandit camp and come back 2 hours later? You want to be "greeted" by a band of bandits immediately? Pants are for nephalem, we are exiles, we do not need pants.

Guys have you even read the first message? I've already explained it... When you enter the new instance/map/location or whatever you wanna call it server saves this information and you're 'bound' to it. Same when you enter town of course. When you quit the game or get disconnected the information is held and when you get back it waits for you. Obviously you can't spawn in the middle of a camp because there will be no camp and map will already (probably) get randomized again. Even if not it doesnt matter. If you turn on the game the server remembers the position you entered this instance last time and you start there, same as if you just came here. There can be short invurnalibity too just like when you enter new instance.
If you entered instance by entering the waypoint and get DC then re-logg guess what, you don't start at the 'bandit camp you got DC from' you start at waypoint and the instance is still there if the timer didnt run out or its randomized again. That's what i care the less about, the important part is starting at the same instance and not run again to this. It doesn't really matter with waypoint example since you can easily get there, but imagine there's no waypoint. Then you enter from some instance to other instance and this place is saved. If you come back to game after dc you start at the entrance of the zone, NOT in camp. Sorry if i explained it too much, probably because i already explained and you didnt get it... or you didn't even read first post :x |

" Sorry about the comment, it was pretty late and I was tired at the time, all of which are pretty lame excuses for what I said. Computer specifications:

" All good dude, everyone has their moments. sohchai and ghostcub: I agree that expecting your progress on a map to be saved is too much, what we're suggesting is that we have the option to spawn at the entrance to the last instance we were in. Yeah, it would be a new instance, randomized and all, but the progress lost would be minimal, compared to what it is now. |

Any chance for dev to at least think about this issue?

" That's what waypoint is doing exactly. One can argue that each instance should have a waypoint, but adding waypoint to every instance give a potential issue that player keep grinding the final boss. Pants are for nephalem, we are exiles, we do not need pants.
