*UPDATED (Potential fix discovered)* Bad FPS with AMD cards.
Computers are so unique to their users that while it can be likely that ATI just isn't as compatible with the game, it can be just as likely that the user done goofed up somewhere.
You can't really be sure. Me personally, I have an AMD card that's nearing three years old. PoE runs fine on it with the occasional stutter, typically when I rev up a Vaal Flameblast when I open up a lockbox in Ambush and the game freezes for half a second to account for my committing of small genocide. :) There's really no point in placing blame on a developer or manufacturer. If you need to upgrade, just upgrade. It's as simple as that. Graphics cards aren't overly expensive. |

try to understand that nvidia cards and ati cards working different. if you have to do some code, there are some significant disparities.
if you doing some coding stuff, you do it on your machine and normally test it there... doing compiling normally visual studio envi. if your programm gona work without big issues, then normally you are testing stuff through some different systems. ati driver/cards is very well known for a lot of issues all around the system. some of them are depending not only through gfx problems, they can cause hardly system problems. personally i would never ever using any ati stuff... geforce is everytime save to use, and got less issues to a lot of gfx stuff... if nvidia or ati you should check: - if your gfx drivers are still up to date. - directX (d3d files) is still up to date. - your chipset drivers up to date well known issues are about the "i" processors with there integrated gpu onboard. if you got a gfx card, then try to disable onboard stuff, that you dont use in bios. - if your soundcards!! are still up to date. (yes yes, freezed screens sometimes coming from defect or "undetectable" sounddriver stuff)... finally you should know, that the os (windows 7 & windows 8) first coded and tested on geforce systems. how can i know dis? because most of the silicon valley windows coders got the microsoft developer hardware, which is geforce still used for. this dev stations still used for everything. there are 3 types of them with diffrent focuses... so if someone asks me what the perfect gaming system is, then i still would say a solid i7/i5 cpu, with ssd and windows7 x64. ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄ ▒▒▒▒░░░░░ ++HIDEOUT IMPROVEMENT THREAD: ..../view-thread/2179528...++░░░░▒▒▒▒ ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ Last edited by loCurnus#1594 on Jun 8, 2014, 5:33:56 PM

Does the game generally run better on Nvidia cards? Yes. Are GGG in bed with them, no.
During CB , the devs mentioned that all the work machines had Nvidia cards, and they did as much testing as they could with the 1 or 2 ATI cards they had at the office. It was planned, its just how it turned out. IGN: BoomFirez

This is a thread that exists in a lot of games I am sorry to say.
The truth of the matter is that both ATI cards and Nvidia cards are both quality and BOTH capable of doing great things in games. However, there just isn't any argument that Nvidia has better compatibility across games, in particular indy games(which is what POE is.) ATI often offers updates and support for large titles but they do not have the dedication to support and optimize for a lot of games that aren't "Big" titles. So many people evaluate cards based on their individual capability without regard for the types and numbers of games for which they are optimized. ATI is MUCH slower to optimize for smaller games. Most of the time, they simply don't unless the game becomes popular. Furthermore, for those who like to hold onto cards for a long time Nvidia supports older cards for longer. Just as an example, Nvidia recently(in march) announced they will soon be dropping support for their older cards. The comparable cards for ATI were dropped, in some cases, as long as 3 years ago. Lastly, Nvidia is simply more popular. On their end, game developers are always going to optimize for the majority before the minority. I can think of 3 games I have played in the last few years that had a lot of ATI complaints in the forums. Last edited by Consequence#7294 on Jun 9, 2014, 4:44:29 AM

" There are thousands of people every day that call into tech support hotlines and can't figure out to turn their computer on/off or how to "click and drag". Just because many people have problems doesn't mean that something is wrong with the computers. People can say their computer is super powerful and that they did everything right all day long, but I don't belive it for a second. Anyone having computer problems should look at themselves first, the computer second, and then after all other options are thoroughly exausted, then they can blame the software optimization. I still won't belive it, most people can't find their own arse let alone properly diagnose a computer problem. IGN: OldManBalls (Warbands)

" actually its not. my ati card broke down a few weeks ago and i used my 7y old Nvidia 8800 GTS and it ran PoE way better than my 1y old ATI card. you can buy such an used nvidia card for way less than the price of some game ign: AdmiralThrawnx (Ons), Diavolixxx/Leavemealoneplx (HC)

" completely agree..dont have nvidia either...died a few times in hardcore and decided thats enough...wasnt even my fault(and no not my build either)..i mean what else should i do if the performance goes down so much with certain skillanimations and other things to the point that i cant react to the enemies in an appropriate way anymore and just simply have to look at my character die the lamest fucking way ever. and its not even a good slideshow. if i can run crysis 2 at the 2nd highest graphical setting without gamebreaking problems then why not poe. its just sad...my gpu isnt the newest model but also not exactly outdated..its one of the 9700 series,16 gb ddr3 ram and a phenom 2 x4 965 cpu. certainly not the best hardware you can get out there but its decent enough. its just not understandable ... im not asking for much, just let me interact with the game enough so i dont die when it really counts but as long that endless stuttering and slideshows are there.... |

My intent here was not to get in a pissing contest. I love POE, think its a fantastic game by a great company. My emails to support were handled very promptly and were sincere and helpful. After all attempts, we couldn't come up with a solution to the poor framerates in group play. It wasn't because of a lack of trying.
I'm happy with my current system and it handles other games just fine. I'm neither bad mouthing nor bashing the game or GGG.....never did. It's simply time to take a little break and hope for improvements down the road. Yes, I am frustrated, not with GGG, but rather the fanboys with screaming new systems that always point the finger at our less than perfect systems. One of the major reasons games like WOW have the incredible longevity is the fact that you can run the game well on the same system you started playing it on nearly 10 years ago. People don't want to (most cant afford to) upgrade their hardware every other content patch. No offense to anyone, personally I'm taking a break and enjoying the PS4 for now. No upgrade concerns, 60 inch tv, recliner, and great framerates. Good luck to all and happy gaming |
