Devs and other GD people - Kripps Death a good thing

Since then Kripps new pimped character has had to resort to dc'ing himself to stay alive.

hardcore my arse, he should have died again a couple of times...
I find it interesting that the other boss could explode the dead boss. Im not sure if you can corpse explode a boss, but I know i couldn't use infernal blow on the boss

It makes sense and it's intended.

Party play = higher boss HP. no sense in standing on the dead boss' corpse while the other detonates it on you.

It's a dumb interaction of damage scaling off party size, and in other cases this has come up it has been removed (or is in the process of being removed ala Unrighteous Fire).

Detonate Dead, like righteous fire, probably should only do damage equivalent to "normal" "unscaled" life. I'm not saying that because Kripp died, but because that's how infernal blow works, so, the mechanic for damage from % life should be consistent.

They joined the instance in a big party and thus increased the bosses´ life by 250%, more than triple her usual life.
Looks like this thread needs some clarifications.
The increased life monsters have when partying is completely ignored by Detonate Dead (and Infernal Blow). They treat the monster's life as it would be without the amount of increased life added for each player beyond the first. This has been the case since long before even the closed beta started.

That detonate dead would have dealt the exact same damage solo. The high damage is because it's a very high level monster, and it's unique (which comes with built in damage bonuses). Partying had nothing to do with it.

Righteous Fire, as mentioned here, is going to be changed to do so as well, but it's more complicated for that skill as it can scale off player life, where Detonate Dead can only do monsters (specifically, this means we now need to explicitly deal with CI correctly).

Good to know ! Thanks
this wont piss off anyone(not anyone reasonable), its known that the unique they were facing used detonate dead, its known that detonate dead deals 18% of the corpses maximum hp as fire damage AND with what mark said, detonate dead ignores the increased HP from party play, so they would have died either way.

they should have killed both uniques before trying to loot, instead the greediness took over and they got exploded for that lol.

heck, even krip who died to this was like "wow, thats surprising" *creates another HC character*

I gotta say, Kripp is pretty classy about dying. No whining, no rage. He's a zen master of videogames.
"MUH ALLFLAME" - dead pirate guy
Ran a twinned Springs today with Prozon. We just clumped the bosses and had minions keep them in place about 3/4 screen away while we used secondary attacks to kill them (we both main pulse). Similarly, melee wont have a problem if they think to use a ranged backup skill for that one tiny but potentially deadly bit of the map. Dont have a ranged backup skill, reroll the map.

As someone else mentioned, this can also be a danger in totem maps- any high life rares can potentially do thousands of damage when popped.

The mechanics fine anyway- its predictable, reasonably avoidable and adds challenge to the game. Examples of actual random and unfair mechanics include the now removed rare suicide monsters situation where theyd randomly appear with haste + swift mods and obliterate characters before the monster even registered on the clients screen, or the unfortunately still present reflect mods that occasionally cause ranged characters to blindly suicide on monsters two screens away.
