I have quite the short time memory so i don't recall the experiences of the older games. Right now i am re-enjoying the Mass Effect games though.

Difficult question, there are so many games I have very fond memories of. But if I had to chose the three that influenced my tastes in games the most, I would come up with:
1 (tied): Quake - the original one. I still have it installed with some mods (like Tenebrae and Dark Places) and have a good romp on Nightmare through it from time to time. Plus, the music haunts me to this day. 1 (tied): Diablo, also the original. It sucked me into its dark, dense world right from the opening cinematic, and to this day, never let me go. Yes, I have it installed. Aaaaah, FRESH MEAT! 3: TES: Morrowind. Because it was (and is) a dream for any exploring type. For me, vastly superior to its successor, Oblivion. And, yes, better in my eyes than Skyrim as well. Though I might change my mind on that, as soon as Skyrim's UI is as accessible as Morrowind's. All in all, those three games changed my outlook on many things and my interest in them. Quake opened my ears to NIN and Metal as a whole (though Quake II's soundtrack may have had its hands in that as well). It also made me love decayed settings, eldritch castles and rocket launchers. Diablo furthered my love for eerie, haunted places (the Cathedral and the Catacombs, especially) and dark fantasy. And Morrowind showed me that what I truly love in games and life - it's exploring the unknown. Especially if it is creepy and has rotting things in it. And all in all, this is why I hope PoE will be my kind of game :-). Creepy, dense, dark. Full of palpable despair and dread. 12/12/12 - the day Germany decided boys are not quite human. Sooooo many good games this is tough.. I'm going to split it up a bit since I can't quite keep it to three.
Just plain awesome 1: Deus Ex (both the origin and Human Revolution) Highly innovative (IMO) 1: Mount and Blade: Warband (with mods of course) 2: Minecraft Sweet tactical play (I love tactical games) 1: Ground Control (not the shitty second one) 2: Jagged Alliance 2 with the 1.13 patch 3: Shogun Total War 2 (I loved MTW and MTW2 as well, but Shogun 2 just stands above them) Epic Strategy 1: Master of Orion 2 2: Civilization 2 (I like the number two...) 3: Age of Empires 2 (playing with friends +++) 4: MAX 5: Distant Worlds First person/third person? 1: Battlefield 2142 2: Max Payne (just has a awesome story and great gameplay) 3: Mafia RPGs 1: Neverwinter Nights (the sheer amount of gameplay is astounding) 2: Dragon Age: Origins (very immersive game) 3: The Witcher 1 and 2 4: Titan Quest 5: Skyrim 6: Fallout 2-4 Simulation 1: Freespace 2 2: Can't think of anymore... So yeah, too many. |

@Nori: Since you love tactical play: have you ever played Incubation? It's my favourite turn-based tactics game (though, tbh, I'm rather mediocre at those type of games).
