PoE really having a shiny future or is it just switching player bases?

I checked into PoE after some time and I barely see any older players.
I didn't like the act 3 changes but closed beta was fine.
I see threads and reddits that people also don't like certain changes

The forum and reddit activity is around the same with the exception of itemreddits being against the rule back then.

So basically my question. Do you believe that there is a shiny future for PoE where everybody is happy or is GGG just switching the playerbase like condoms?

It doesn't look like the devs are communicating with their players anymore.

When did /online stop working btw?

That couldn't be farther from the truth.

There is daily dev posts all over the forums/their subreddit, daily announcements during the weekdays, they've started explaining all balance decisions in patchnotes and they've just resumed doing the dev manifesto further explaining their development.

PoE just like D2 is the kind of game people will play in bursts. Usually at the start of each ladder many will come back and check out the changes. Some might be interested, others might not be. Some people would come back in a year while others would keep playing PoE consistently.

Online game forums in most games have become a lot more putrid over the years. Back in CB even in OB the forums were more civil and the devs felt free to communicate without their words being twisted or exploited to turn what they say into something different.

GGG had resorted to posting on reddit as the community there was a lot more forgiving, shit posts or non constructive posts were buried and life was good.

Then the official forums were under fire because GGG were using reddit and ignoring "key issues" that have been answered time and time again and finally they died out posting there too.

I believe this is another reason why the Dev Manifesto was started back up, it allows them to answer questions indirectly without twisting single comments out of proportion.

Can anyone show me 1 official forum for a game that has been released that isn't flooded with "shit posts" or entitlement issues?

That's not really true though. It's only Chris and 1-2 other devs that sometimes post there. Even during that time there was more posts on the official forums coming from devs.

I'd say PoE subreddit is just more mature in general. The karma system makes people not want to go insulting due to downvotes. I've seen a lot of the same criticisms there as here. They just don't present it in an insulting manner.

[Removed by Support]

Personally, I feel the forums have more entertainment value than the game.

Oh hi Scott, we raced together back in CB. :)

"
There is daily dev posts all over the forum

You mean those annoying postings starting with:
"I am really sorry ..."
"Please refrain..."
"Topic locked due..."

"
daily announcements during the weekdays

Those are mostly advertisements. Back in CB there were 1-2 announcements a week at best and they contained important informations.
And "What devourers body look like" make it into the news?
Maybe he should also mention his least favourite thread like "Game dying" or "SFL"

"
they've started explaining all balance decisions in patchnotes

In CB we had discussions with them sometimes accepted sometimes ending up in Dead Ends for the devs when the question was:"Why didn't you change it like that?[example]"

"
they've just resumed doing the dev manifesto further explaining their development.

Ok look at the Manifesto.
The desync manifesto is pretty much the same. I skipped most of it but I remember the phrases and key structures so maybe 1-2 more sentences

1 Thread is a patch preview.

Client Performance is only an announcement "We will maybe able to add even more MTX" and text rendering(I would handle the chatbox in a very different way anyway)
The interesting question left unanswered.

Rebalance is questionable: It reads nice but what if a boss does 20k base damage and the change is a change to 19k.
There have been far too many insignificant "decreased damage" changes already and something balanced around 90% resist will be balanced around 88% resist. But you should know my opinion of the balance devs already.

New player experience also might sound nice but since the balance devs will handle it I have fears that there will be a manacost backslash. This has been an issue since CB.
While skills weren't nerfed that much the manacost changes were horrible.
Not being able to use skills anymore because your support gems received a 200% multiplier in a 2 link and the base cost is 50% higher.

The League plan is the only better manifestothread. But you should question yourself.
The Invaderconcept isn't much different from the Exile concept so why is the invader concept a failure? Simply because damage is poorly scaled.
If the flicker exile would one shot you, EK having huge range chaos damage and multishot nobody would want to see exiles either.
Remember what resulted in the Exile change.
They introduced Vaalskillspamming exiles with oneshot mechanics.
This is what invasion is like.
You have the corrupted zone bosses spawn randomly and spam vaalskills or oneshot damage skills.

The concept itself would be fine but there is no risk reward and the balance dev imagination of a "hard" game.
The guest bases will certainly be implemented but I don't like it either because several guests are annoying like necromancers in Ancient Pyramid, Alchemist packs in sewers, Devourers destroying the flair of weavers chambers(devourers aren't even scorpions) etc.
Invasion failed because of balance and not because the concept was weak.

"
GGG had resorted to posting on reddit as the community there was a lot more forgiving, shit posts or non constructive posts were buried and life was good.

Imo reddit is full of shitposts. Good threads barely get up and every crappy itempost receives upvotes.
I could create a fakescreen with a 6 white linked shavronnes and receive 300 upvotes for a fake.

"
to communicate without their words being twisted or exploited to turn what they say into something different.

Bad communication around the devs itself. Resulting in Chris posting ending with (I believe)

Or vague answers which could be interpreted in another way.
The announcements shows how many people read the news. But the difference between important and unimportant news is huge it's not enough to make a clear indicator how many players are playing but if Chris posts something that could be interpreted as "We have 150k or 200k active players" of course there will be at last one person say "It's bullshit" (I think that was the answer in that case) which was the corrected down to another unrealistic value, which might be realistic at peak launch.

Those twisted come from quotes out of context and being misinterpreted.

"
Can anyone show me 1 official forum for a game that has been released that isn't flooded with "shit posts" or entitlement issues?

I could name some outdated games, which have big modder communities where former official devs post. I also could name some not aiming at a younger audience.
One reason CB and early OB was more civil were non robotic moderators.
They could easily see if somebody was just looking for trouble or if it was just a quarrel.

And now we have standardanswer moderators misreading context and doing necromancermodertation.

"
That's not really true though. It's only Chris and 1-2 other devs that sometimes post there. Even during that time there was more posts on the official forums coming from devs.

The annoying thing is that the answers to certain issues come on reddit and not here.
I remember Chris being provoked to answer here in a "Game dying" thread when some bodywrote something like:
"I like how Chris willingly ignores to post here"

"
I'd say PoE subreddit is just more mature in general. The karma system makes people not want to go insulting due to downvotes. I've seen a lot of the same criticisms there as here. They just don't present it in an insulting manner.

Itemposting cluttering Page 1.
New players getting insulted and downvoted for asking questions.(Hello elitists aka "I got no social life and watch a popular streamer" and PVP elitists)

"
Any criticism, no matter how valid or well-worded, is usually met with a *hostile answer

*changed by me because support believed it was necessary to censor a phrase for 2 swearwords directed at nobody. Oh dear I can't wait when Charan, Me and some others will be probated for shaming scammers back in 2012 in the "shame thread"

Personally, I feel the forums have more entertainment value than the game.

Nah that(the original unedited phrase) would be removed too.

It's more they post some elitist phrases which could be in short "You suck, learn to play" or "GGG does a great job what do you want that's not an issue"

Edit:
Reddit is so much more mature....
Elitist kids

http://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/2413am/discussionpoe_really_having_a_shiny_future_or_is/

He got downvoted and insulted with the first answer and the third one is somebody never playing CB.
Either MoC, Dread Thicket/AP on bad luck or Maps are correct answers.

PoE reddit should be renamed too: Sandbox for kids, itemsshowcase and announcementreposts in PoE.

When opinions are taken to bottom end of the spectrum the others get taken to the top end. I picture every thread as a shouting match instead of 2 gentlemen(or ladies) having a civil debate speaking softly over tea now.
I forgot to respond with my opinion on the thread topic.

I would rather say GGG is hoping for a "shiny future" but their actions result in players leaving the game and less new players join the game but some leave again.

/online was removed in late CB already I think. If not then early OB.

all the people who came to PoE to escape the Auction Role-Playing Game genre of D3 have since left

all the people who loved playing the Auction Role-Playing Game of D3 while it still had the AH have since come to PoE

so yeah, full community swap

All the botters needed someplace to go after D3 got rid of the AH as well....They seem to welcomed with open arms in this community.
