Suggestions for new character naming

Honestly, only the developers would know how difficult coding a change to the name system would be - anyone else trying to say it is either easy or unfeasible is just doing guesswork. People posting here that "You should stop crying" are just being immature - why shouldn't people voice their concerns? It isn't costing you anything.

PoE seems to have been developed with the attitude of "We will do it how we think it should be done, not how everyone else does it" so far, anyway.

There are 3 things that make name reservation more of an issue in PoE versus, say, WoW.

- Characters in PoE are Global, whereas in a game like WoW they are only for the server you are playing on.

This means that, playing on the USA server, I can't use a name that someone in, for example, the UK has taken, net alone the duplicates because of server counts for different parts of the world.

- The second is not allowing extended ASCII characters; Normally I don't care if one of my character names is taken - I just replace a letter with an accented one - but the restriction on English only characters makes this also impossible.

- Lastly PoE is a free to play game, which means that the short term playerbase is likely to be far higher than a game you have to buy. A lot of people can sign up, download, create 3 or 4 characters to try out the classes then log off never to return.

In a few years time I can see this problem becoming worse and worse, so if something is to be done it should be done while it is still in beta.

Some names are alot more popular than some others.

I do not want to see any name taken from an anime or other crap more than 0 times, 1 being nearly unbearable.

What GGG should do, is make their own name generator. Nearly everything in this game's random, so adding one more thing to the lottery list hardly makes a difference.
Heck, it could make people appreciate the character they have and grow fond of their given name. Just like in real life you're given a name at birth, you'll be given one at PoE. But unlike real life (where you can change your name once for free) you have to pay real money to GGG to get the name you want.
It's just cosmetics, so why not?

I know this topic is rather old, but as a new player it really bothers me. The way it is now the game is BEGGING for names like "lijasldnaljsnd".

As I preceived it, the reason for unique names is to identify oneself with the char, but this is hardly feasable with cryptic names.
One solution could be to be identified by your account name to players outside the party and by your character's name (or, as an option, account name as well) inside the party.

Also, if this gets ever implemented I'd wish for a onetime option to rename your chars ^^

Sorry if there was already some progress/feedback from the devs, but it wasn't in the "Common Suggestions" post.

Spaces? Yes please.
Certain characters? (like - ' .) Again, yes please.

Renaming characters? Sure. Don't see what it would hurt.
