This feature has HC players in mind the most. Even a modem resetting once a month resulted in death when people played D3. In D3 the devs did not consider hardcore as much as PoE does. Alt F4 is NOT an PoE feature, it's only left in so the embarrassment they call hardcore can still be played. This thread proves if you play the game how it's supposed to be played you'll be punished. If the only means of survivial was a quick portal or Alt +F4, the death was deserved. You ran into something you couldn't handle and it killed you. Would have happened in non HC too. And the fact you are now in SC instead of trying to take another crack at what killed you is due to the conscious and challenging decision you made to play on Invasion. Really, nothing to see here... No the death wasn't deserved because he stepped into a teleport with health left, why on earth do GGG allow mobs to do damage to immobile characters anyway?
