Oh my holy wall of text. tl;dr Steam only? /pukes

I'd love to read feedback if someone feels different, but I'm certainly waiting for Steam-free release.

"/pukes"

really? I mean I know GGG did a stand alone alpha and closed beta but you can't blame the devs for making use of easy to use tools such as steam to help them launch their closed alpha. Are you really going to hold a grudge because of it?

Besides that,

I played about 3 hours of it today and I do like the look and feel (though I do still think / wish for it to be improved on, alpha being alpha). I also think that both PoE and GD can co-exist and even share the same player base with no problems. PoE takes its ques from D2 while GD takes them from TQ (no surprize here). I look forward to the development of both games.

Not grudge against devs but Steam itself. Steam helping them... it's alpha, it's not like they're gonna get millions. But their choice, so is mine. Just disappointed, that's all.

I'm not holding grudge I'm just gonna wait till non steam that's all. Glad u guys enjoy it.

Great first impression. The game hiccuped a bit when a large group of mobs showed up on the screen, but otherwise felt very stable.

My main concern is having your health regen so quickly out of combat made kiting a bit too effective. Especially since bosses seem to not be able to leave their little area (like in TQ). I only got to level ten though. Things might be different in the later game.

It gets a bit more hectic later on - or maybe I suck - but I'm chugging potions left and right now.

Its pretty fun honestly but if your still really liking POE it isn't gonna replace it or anything right now heh. The Alpha is honestly pretty short and a lot of the stuff they have planned for release isn't in the Alpha right now. I really enjoyed playing the Alpha but its definitely not a replacement for POE right now lol.
I've been enjoying the Grim Dawn alpha. It's like TQ, but improved in nearly every way.

My highest character is level 17 and I have yet to use a single potion thanks to my pet's heals and the regen that kicks in if you haven't been hit for a long enough period of time. I'm still not sure if that's a good mechanic; I don't like feeling forced to chug potions, but not using them at all doesn't feel quite right either.

I've never even come close to dying in the game...it could definitely use a difficulty increase methinks. Alpha is alpha, and it is just the early game, so we'll see how the later content is eventually.

This, Van Helsing, and Marvel Heroes have been a nice combo for me. I haven't touched PoE since February or so...I think closed beta was far better in every way compared to open beta. If the game ever becomes more like closed was, I might return. Ah well, such is life. At least I have the other games I listed to keep me occupied.

since i don`t want to play the game before it`s released (or on some sort of steam-pre-order-open-beta), could you guys perhaps give some feedback on the current skill-trees?
I watched some gameplay-vids from the alpha start, but they didn`t show the trees or talk much about them.
What i got was the impression the skill-system beeing very similiar to TQ/IT (which is a good thing), but i`d like to know more about what`s in the trees.
Are they mixable again? If so, how many (2?)?

Thank god atleast one good hack`n slash is down the road (besides PoE)...

The skill tree is totally same as it was done in TQ (with new skills duh). You can combine max 2 masteries also as in TQ. They didn't change anything, and why would they, it did function very good.

The melee combat feels a ton better than in TQ, I mean there are heads and legs flying around with blood and gore splashing the ground. Really good shit

This. Also, there are 3 trees at the moment, but they have 2 more in the works.

The combat feels really good; it's very responsive and rewarding. It makes melee feel a lot more enjoyable than it was in TQ.

Also, there are a LOT of different enemies in the alpha and I've been very impressed with the variety so far and rather enjoy the varied abilities they use. The two enemy abilities I've liked best are this sonic attack, it snares you and causes you to fumble your spells/attacks, and a charge that freezes you in place if it hits you. Either ability could be seriously deadly if you get hit at the wrong time; it's great.

Download the mod that one of the devs posted the other night. It allows you to get up to Lvl 50 to try out builds and ramps the difficulty A TON. Ive died more times then i can count trying it packs of champion mobs its insane but fun lol.
I have been playing this recently my self, I have do own TQ on steam and yea its exactly like it but much better. The atmosphere is great and they nailed the music on it just like path of exile total gritty stuff im glad there's another arpg coming out that has mature content in it.
