Number of players decreasing

I'll be around for a while. I love this game. It has its flaws but show me a perfect game.

A lot of people talk about nerfs but I don't get it. Will the skills still not be powerful? Will you still not be able to roll over content and win the game/farm for gear?

Make leveling more fun. Right now all I do is get Spectral Throw -> Right click to merciless -> Switch to 'main' build. It shows there's some clear imbalances and it makes leveling boring. Back in D2, you could level with anything, it scaled really well and leveling/combat was FUN.

That seems to be the direction D3 was trying to head in and it actually made players disappointed about the fact that they can easily switch builds. It made their characters feel un unique in the sense that you could just switch "builds on the fly". POE has approached skill development in a slightly different way than D2 & just to add, wouldn't having any limitation on what you can use depending on how you built your passives sound... right?

Or am i not on the same level as you? Are you referring to spectral throw in the sense that its the most efficient leveling skill till late game and that it shits on most other skills in terms of efficiency?
When it comes to "leveling with anything" POE enforces limitations on that aspect depending how you build your passive tree, but i do in fact think that many skills need further changes/buff/nerfs so that all builds can start off on a level playing field.

This is just a standard business cycle. This is why restaurants are always having 'grand openings' and changing their name. A certain % of people are just novelty-seeking. It's human nature.

Sure, but you seemed to have missed my question.
Why not break that cycle?

that is a good point.

Another thing I dislike about PoE is that when you reach a certain point, you are forced to trade pretty much, since the worst way to find good loot is killing monsters. That's no different than back in D3 you were forced to use AH for loot.

This. Lack of effective leveling builds and trading vs grinding imbalance at the end game are the only major flaws of PoE (but really big ones). Desync is just a nuisance and nothing more, if it ruins ones game then it's L2P issue.

Yeah i know i don't speak for everyone but i am a solo player, i don't really like to play with others, only sometimes and the fact that you need to trade to progress more quickly is something i hate to do. As i mentioned in my first post i can't stay in trade chat all day, its not even remotely fun for me, but this is sadly the design decision GGG went with and i am assuming it works for them since they haven't announced anything drastic like for example D3.
So it just sucks to be me.

As for desync...yeah that just plain sucks and its something we all have to live with till we all get a fibre optic connection :3
This is a hardcore game, casuals will always come and go, end of story.

I played D2 a LONG TIME, that doesn't mean I played it 24/7.

Desync isn't *just* a nuisance and it's certainly not an L2P issue.
The game is outright bullshitting you with the representation and you're okay with that...

Btw, I can and do survive desync fine all the freaking time (with a 200+ ping too) but it STILL makes the game suck shit.

It has a massive cheapening effect on the experience, removes positioning, timing aspects and generally just means shitty dynamics.

If you think it's a slight annoyance, fine. I don't, many others don't.

Thats a fair point, and im not saying people need to play POE 24/7.
This topic is about keeping the players fully engaged as long as they can.
You don't have to be a "hardcore" gamer to throw in a somewhat consistent amount of time until the end of the league. There is a clear issue with keeping the player base from falling.
Imo if GGG can do things to address this issue and hold a higher and more consistent player base, that bring in the potential for more micro-transaction purchases and the chance to hold on to more cash cows.
So this is a thing that is both good for the players and GGG.
Also a whole region (Asia) has no access to PoE on Steam as a result of Garena.

Ok...
It was established long ago that steam is not the focal point of this discussion :/
