POE aka "Capitalism Simulator"?

The basic issue with trades is, that the actual trading (dis-?)functionality favours and supports the MAIN reason of this traders role: flipping, which is based on the ability to sell cheaper than you buy (and do nearly nothing else beside this). These 'middlemen' are a disease that needs a cure (and can be cured) - less efforts in trading leads poor joe to _much_ cheaper sources.

We'll see, how it goes with the announced improvements...

That is an issue in practically every online game. You will always have traders or 'middlemen' who rather trade than play the game. So what? In Path of Exile such a big fuss is made out of it while in other online games no one really cares.

In some online games traders have gazillions of gold bars/platinum coins in their stash. Does it make the game more fun? No not at all. It will make you jaded.

So either you dont give a shit about those gazillion gold bars in Path of Exile and you enjoy the game for what it is. Or you actually do care and are simply jealous what those traders do ingame.

POE 2 is designed primarily for console.
This game feels like an EVE online wannabe.

The difference is that in EVE you know you are in an economy simulator.
I was (and still am) rich as fuck in another online game. Was it fun? You can be damn sure it was! It did not make me jaded at all.

Path of Exile’s economy is the most important element of the game to us.

This it the biggest problem with the game. When GGG thinks the economy is more important then player satisfaction, loot, or fun then you end up with an economic simulator that has a ARPG mini-game inside it.

I don't think GGG think the economy is more important that player satisfaction but I do think trading should take a backseat and be primarily used to fill in any gear-gaps.

I also think it is absolutely paramount that players also understand that at the moment, we have 2 core choices to make:

1. Be efficient... trading is the most efficient way to play this game.

2. Be satisfied... play using the gear you find and craft.

Each of us can choose the path we want our exile to head down. Most efficient or most satisfied. Ofcourse some people will love trading and get great satisfaction from it and thats great. Each for their own.

I just think people often hold efficiency over and above satisfaction and then whinge about it :(

Its such a tough job for GGG to provide satisfaction when some players choose efficiency as their number 1 playmode.

Your assumption that playing the way I like is satisfying in this game is wrong IMHO.

I played 2 and a half month solo self found and let me tell you, it's not satisfaction I felt, but the sensation of being made a fool.

You either trade or go full MF, and the second option is not guaranteed to succeed.

One of the most major components of both capitalism and online games,is competition. Therefore the economy will always be capitalistic. You can't have social security,or fair distribution of the wealth on a game, where you are supposed to be an asshole exile.
This being saif i would love a partly self found league, meaning that trading of currency, maps and uniques will be disabled, while allowing the trading of white, blue and rare items, while of course greatly increasing the drop rates of orbs and maps. This way:
1)trading will be more about individual needs, rather than gathering wealth and dominating the economy
2)since uniques won't be as accesible it would encourage playing more with what is available to you, thus more interesting builds
3)orbs will fullfil much more their initial job, which is being used as crafting materials
4)map groups will be more about playing with the ppl you want, either bcause they are your friends,or because their builds synergise well with yours, meaning they are usefull addition to the party, rather increasing your wealth through fees

Sure there will be ways to exploit this, but it would be much much harder. The addition of a such league would make me play the game again.

Sure. We are all going to have our feelings towards this game. I didn't want to write 15 pages of all the different feelings people could have towards this game.

I used to trade but it was really starting to turn me off the game. Constantly checking the forum and other sites. Just having trade chat on was starting to hurt me enjoying this game.

The answer in my case was to stop trading. 9 months later and I haven't regretted it at all. I love finding or crafting something myself and actually being able to upgrade my gear. Thats where I find my enjoyment from this game. Your enjoyment may be progressing as fast as you can. Or finishing all the achievements. or something else.

This game is so open-ended, you can choose what you enjoy and don't.

Stopped trading too. Will start selffound from the start with the beginning of the new HC league. No more trading at all cause it ruins the game for me.
But there are gearwalls which are very hard to surpass, especially in HC. Will still try :-)

Nice! SF is defo a different playstyle but one I enjoy. The gear checks are definitely there... Dominus Act1 is probably the one you have to (over)farm for the most... even more so than Cruel Dom which is weird but maybe I've just found better gear earlier on in the levelling process on my exiles >.<

Goodluck.

I was thinking of trading in the next league but I don't think I will.

EvE's much more of a corporate/political simulator.

It doesn't matter how rich you are in EvE. It matters how well you are connected. Wealth alone means absolutely nothing.

Which makes sense, since EvE is all about the players. If only this game were all about killing monsters...
