GGG wants the game to be competitive, even when it comes to picking up loot. no one can take loot allocated to you while the timer is active, so they aren't ninja-looting.

if you have poor encounters with a team, leave the team or party with friends.

How can you make friends in game when every group experience is miserable? Someone will ninja loot, then everyone starts. Then everyone has a bad time.

What i love about those tread is that fact you easely identify the ninjas and jackasses.

For over a decade no one complained about this with D2. Suddenly D3 comes out and now all isometric ARPGs must have instanced loot? No, im glad this game pays homage to the oldschool cutthroat feel. Welcome to Wraeclast.

LoL no one complained? Everyone complained!!! That why there were numerous hack programs out there that auto looted for you in D2!!!!!

I know because after getting tired of receiving 0 loot in d2 group games I joined in and ran a hack that looted for me.

Look on forums for bots/hacking people are already working on auto loots and bots for path of exile.

Indeed. My fondest memories of D2 have nothing to do with FFA loot.

In fact, I had terrible internet connection back in 1998-2002 (pretty sure everyone in northern Canada did...) so I would miss out on loot all the time.

I have fond memories of getting Pk'd by reds while mining away on UO, too. So it's not like I'm some spoiled gamer who fusses when he doesn't get his own way.

I would say FFA loot can stay, but there needs to be a longer timer. Especially right now with all the desync issues and server lag causing me to miss items I clicked on 5 times. They can put the timer back to the way it was once they fix the issues with actually grabbing the loot...

there is a very real risk of this happening.
i didnt read through, but a simple solution to this is: groups get the option to turn the timer on or off ;)

the counter ends too fast. please give it double time at least. or just fix the lag because the counter ends before the lag peak ends.

Your post proves you have no idea why people are arguing about looting. Do yourself a favor and read through the last 100 pages or so.

i have the problem of getting many lag spikes, sometimes 2 or 3 seconds.
the timer has passed since, also when i group up i am looking for company, not a competition who is the faster itemlooter :(

at least the default league should get the option of turning the loottimer off, noone likes to be robbed, also i dont like the idea of having to grab before the others.

as a char that plays from the distance u have the problem that the melees have a very short way to the loot. u dont, so its either stop casting, or shooting, running into the crowd or risk losing your stuff to the melee(s)

i understand the point in hc league tho, or for other future leagues, but since the default league is the fishtank u should get the chance to enjoy and explore the game, even in a random group.

That's what I think even people who like FFA loot wouldn't mind a longer timer/or it shouldn't hurt the game for them. Unless they are the Ninja's in which case mental note for who not to party with. I think a party option to turn FFA on and off would be great that way both sides would be happy, but I am willing to bet an exalted there would still be way more parties with FFA turned off.

I've stated this elsewhere and it doesn't seem to gain any traction but I'll say it again.

It isn't ninja-looting if the timer expires. the loot is only "yours" while the timer is up. They cannot loot the item when the timer is up, therefore they cannot ninja anything. They can certainly take loot on the ground not allocated to anyone by the timer, but that is not ninja looting.

Ninja looters - is a phrase that in my time of online gaming has always referred to someone who circumvented the loot rules for personal gain. If the loot rule system (either explicitly stated in the game or decided upon by the group) is not circumvented, than the party responsible is not a ninja.

for practical purposes timer is non-existant
and everyone that that takes an item that they obviously dont need and someone else in the party might is ninja looting
you obviously dont even know what ninja looting is so here it is:

Looting specific items off enemies that the player's own party defeated before the party has formally decided who should do so, or in direct contradiction to a decision that someone else should loot.

Consistently looting all defeated enemies at the earliest possible moment, thus precluding any other party member from receiving any treasure, even when nothing special is to be had. (This is also known as "loot whoring".)

Looting items that the player cannot use for the sole purpose of selling or trading it.

also this:

Similarly, at times there may be a physically accessible treasure that is being guarded (e.g., a treasure chest), such that any attempt to loot it will provoke the guardians into attacking; a player who waits near such a treasure for another player to engage the guardians - and then loots it himself while the other player is occupied in combat - is considered a ninja looter (effortlessly acquiring a treasure at someone else's risk and expense).

Taking an item they don't need is not ninja looting. that is just not following a "need before greed" protocol that has nothing to do with the timer - and if you want to play that way - you should make it explicitly clear before setting out.

Taking all items is, as you said, called a loot whore - that has nothing to do with the timer or being a ninja so it is irrelevant to this topic.

Triggering mobs to distract the other players and then looting a chest - is also ninja looting, but has nothing to do with the timer.

But a simple timer fix would stop this at least deter it. If i got an item sniped once in awhile I wouldn't complain when its every run even when you state respect loot drops don't ninja. If people just said ok i'm not gonna join them cause they don't want me picking up stuff that didn't drop for me problem would be solved, but we all know to well that doesn't work in fact it probably makes them join just to troll. The question still stands all the people for FFA loot, and want to keep it still can't tell me why its a good system, and why adding a longer timer is so horrible. Just empty quotes like don't change it that's stupid, and that means they just want to get carried. We are not asking for a total game remake or even instanced loot. Guild Wars had like 5 min timer's i'm not even asking for that just 20-30 sec so the party doesn't loose a dps or tank because they are worried about sniping loot, and even make the items invisible so people don't hover them.
