Asynchronous trading? Really? Why?

Asynchronous is a too fancy word. Implies 21st century

What we have now is a bronze age type thing and the updated trading system will be more like good ol' 17th century, where horses & postal service were cutting edge technology. :P

But seriously, not being able to trade unless both online, is very lame. Almost as lame as chat trade spam.

I too was surprised they are implementing asynchronous trade. Making trade easier can be a real slippery slope if done poorly. That announcement is the first time I've really worried about PoE's future.

I worry it's just going to exacerbate the feeling you have to trade to upgrade rather than play to get your items. It could push further the gap between the rich and poor and also could cause general issues with inflation, power creep and game balance. It's also going to make the economy more difficult to regulate in terms of fairness. The average player would feel the pain of a decrease in drop rates far more than a rich player.

SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

BTW, it's not really a new announcement. It's been known (stated by Chris) that something along these lines was coming eventually. It was supposed to be in for the start of open beta, but wasn't ready.

The important thing ( to me ), is that there is till no buyout.
Trading with people on the other side of the world more easily is q good thing, sometimes It's not easy if your timetable does not allow you much flexibility for his kind of stuff.

This just look like to be what we already have from shop indexer, but much more flexible since you can do it from internet. I like it.

Personally I'd prefer to go back to old trading, aka both throw your half on the ground and hope the other person isn't a ninja, and give crafting a substantial boost to compensate. Improved trading is only going to further ruin any chances of crafting being viable in early/mid/late game.

Remember how "fun" the D3 AH was? Remember how every one of your drop in the game was completely worthless because you could always so easily find something better instantly in the AH?
Remember how that ruined the feel of the game?
It's actually a really big problem that actually COULD ruin this game.
Let's just hope that doesn't happen.

If you ask me, adding some good, apparently backwards (for this day and age and considering the possibilities of technology) but interesting/fun, artificial restrictions to the trading system, to slow down, restrick in number, force to make hard/intelligent choices,... I don't know, but basically making it NOT a completely open, extremely easy and instant system like the AH, would prevent at least some of this, while possibly making the trading process actually fun and exciting.

Drops in PoE are already worthless in 99.99% of cases if you trade and in 99% of cases if you play self-found. Shop indexers already offer instant searching for better gear and allow for faster trade.

If it wasnt for poe.xyz nobody would trade (and therefore play) this game.

I remember the Dark Age of Camelot Housings ( mmorpg I know ) : there were buyouts, but you had to travel to the merchant's selling NPC to actually buy it.
I would like a map with such things, where people actually need to purchase the NPC that will sell the stuff, or the magic device that will make the mental link between the seller and the guy asking for the item so that they can connect together.
The buyer would need to travel to the location ( the housing maps was divided into sub-sections where people could tp to some key points, as those were houses, the map were quite big ).

Then you have on general "store" that display what it sell-able and where, and then you need to go there to get the item ( with a feature to know if the seller is available at this moment or something ).

In other words : we need something that would make transactions not too easy, in the example I just proposed, the buyer need to travel and spend some time to get the item if he really wants it.
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.
