What PoE could Learn From Torchlight 2 Mods [Itemization/MagicFind Rant]
POE>TL2

Okay, wtf is this post about?
TL 2 is a great game POE is a great game just because they are both action rpg or whatever this genre is called doesnt mean they should be compared. These games are so vastly different its stupid. Reason: POE has by far the online competitive advantage. Making this game moddable would destroy that because the dev's would allow their code to become readable and shift competitive advantage. TL2 is moddable and makes re-playability as new adventures/places/itesm ect. fun and creative instead of the competitive style that POE is. i play both, if u like one more than the other play that one more. solution solved. |

If i was allowed to pick one feature from TL2 to bring over to PoE, it would be the "organize stash" button, where it reorganizes your stash by sorting things according to their item type.

TL2 is a good game, but it lacks the depth of PoE. To be fair, TL2 is doing the right thing for their outfit. I love it that we have great outfits to compete with Blizzard.
GGG listens to its fans!!! Thank you!

All I really remember is that for the first few weeks of TL2 you could become virtually invincible, had that 10% all damage resist necklace with like 17 of those 5% damage resist socketables with a bunch of the other insanely good ones. Haha. Was so fun being OP.
The only issue from it being a good multiplayer game long term was the fact that nothing was really stored server said afaik. So basically with enough knowledge you could create a perfect item out of thin air, or max gold, or really anything. Every time I would join a multiplayer match I would be playing with some level 100 guy with all perfectly rolled gear with top stats, top rolls, perfect rolls on every unique and max gold. Seems legit right? lol. ก็็็็็็็็็็IGN:Varanice(90 EA Marauder); Aura_Amoureux (8X LL Aurastack Cyclone Scion) Softore Shop Thread #665265 -Uniques, Race Rewards, Gems, and more. Torchlight 2 may have been a really good game, but alas for me the screen blended into one big mass of color and often times I was just lost in it all.Painfully eye bleeding enough for me that I did one harder difficulty clear and uninstalled. (exactly what I did for TL1)
I'll have to trust everyone elses judgement that mods made it better itemization wise. But from a one time only play through vanilla it was a *just pass* experience. Last edited by Temper#7820 on Jan 8, 2014, 1:35:21 AM

" That's not difficulty. It's poor game design. Getting randomly one-shot in TL2 is one of the main reasons why I lost interest, though I otherwise loved the game. Most ARPGs have these situations (e.g. D2 had stair traps and exploding FE champions until they fixed it), but in TL2 it was over the top. | |
I also swap back and forth between POE and TL2. I love both games, but TL2 has some serious flaws that completely break the game for me. The Multiplayer has always been bugged as hell, which is really sad since the only reason they made it was for multiplayer, which was the only thing missing from TL1. Vanilla TL2 had some seriously bad stat design when you reached NG+ and beyond. Why they put armor values before % reduction in the damage calc’s I’ll never understand. However, both of those normally game breaking shortcomings are easily overlooked by the massive amount of mods and additional content the community has provided. I’d be cool if POE could add modded content, but it’s obviously a completely different game so it’d be hard to add player content that stayed in the theme of POE.
For those interested, get TL2 on steam (it’s always on sale), use the workshop for easy mods. Storm Textures, synergies, far east pack, and TL2 essentials (this one crashes multiplayer just FYI) and you’ll have a few hundred hours of great arpg fun for when you need a break from POE. |
