What PoE could Learn From Torchlight 2 Mods [Itemization/MagicFind Rant]

i played TL2 for ~6months, then switch to PoE open beta to now.

Think it's a great enhancement to have a pet delivering and selling all those loots during fight. Just like what TL2 does.

If this feature is available, I think I will pay for it. Right now, it's just fancy to have pet without any other useful function.

Or even, have a pet skill/gem to increase your dps/survival (e.g. x% of damage absorption by pet for x seconds)..things like that.

GGG, please think about it.

Thanks.

+1 to OP

Mamba's Extended Mod Merge does have awesome item affixes. It would be great if even some of them make it into PoE.
It was so easy to get drops in TL2 that people in MP games were just giving away stuff. There was no prestige to having a certain item, because I would have 5x of every item at least. It got boring for me real fast because how easy it was to get the best gear.

The reason I'm playing TL2 at the moment is because with Mamba's Extended Mod Merge installed it's itemization is superior to Path of Exile's. The mod in question solves PoE's itemization dilemma by adding over 450 item affixes to the game. Not shitty affixes like % light radius but cool and interesting ones like casting a spell on strike or on hit. % chance to double magic find on kill for x seconds. % chance to convert enemy to ally for x seconds. There are 450 of these kinds of mods for items put in the game.

I'll definitely try that mod. While we have played a reasonable amount of Torchlight 2, we haven't really got a good idea of which mods are being played, and which ones are worth investigating.

The best Mod for Titan Quest Imortal Throne is called Lilith The Will of Demon : Battles of Jalavia and can be downloaded here:

This is old school TQIT at it's best. It even lets you set your own level of difficulty so it satisfies the casual and the uber hardcore players. All created by a super devoted TQIT fan and makes that arpg a blast to play. For anyone who loves TQIT it is a must play mod.

The map where you come in from above on a trail so you can see an entire circular graveyard complete with graves/tombstones arranged in a wagon wheel spokes pattern like the old western "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" with a boss monster at the center and 100s of other creatures running around is jaw dropping. The background music the author of this mod chose is perfect to enhance the mood of descending into a graveyard full of death.
"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

It was not bad that people were so giving, but it did kill any desire to play the game after your character was decked in the best gear for free.

I waited TL2 for so long... For like 6 months straight I visited their forums and commented on issues etc. I was so hyped, multiplayer would be _awesome_, this was going to be The Remnant of D2.

Then, when it finally came I played it for two whole weeks. Two, frigging, weeks.

That, my friends, is what happens when you handle out everything to the player on a silver platter. That is the same thing that casuals here do not understand and keep demanding GGG to implement. Without the grind, without the frustraion of leveling up, without the trading, without all those things that are "boring" and "work", there is no feeling of reward and satisfaction.

TL2 had instanced loot, what a horrible idea and we (who opposed it on their forums) said it would backfire, and it did. TL2 could spawn items straight from console and even use those items in multiplayer games (really WTF!?) and we said it would backfire and it would take away the replayability and fun, and it did.

GGG _UNDERSTANDS_ these things. They understand WHY the "boring" parts are required for the game to be rewarding. You don't have music without the spaces between notes. You should be happy about that. Stop the damn whine if you don't understand. At least try to understand.

So no, TL2 _didn't_ do it right. They might've gotten something right, for example the pet and the fishing systems were really nice and fun ideas. On other issues, such as itemization that is like 50% in an ARPG, they absolutely slaughtered it. Horrible, horrible, horrible and not rewarding at all. This is where GGG shines.

This is also why GGG needs to follow their vision. They need to.

What if magic find was based on level (plus extra from gear.)

I have only 8% increased item rarity. I don;t want to do MF. I want to kill stuff in one hit. So I suffer from lack of gear drops unless I party up.

Now, keep MF the way it is but in addition add a certain percentage to each character one they reach level 60 or so. Like 1 percent or something. That way I can at least have something while I play.

I don't want to play the MF game so I suffer. :/

You just have to watch the Runic Games forum. :D
