Screen is zoomed in way too far, this isn't 1998 so...
Yes. I tried the mouse wheel but it didn't do anything. That was because I was already at max zoom. I guess it's fine to just not care that somethings in melee range with my witch and continue spamming my skills anyway. I'm just worried that eventually it won't be a viable option to allow my spellcaster to take the hits from charging and jumping enemies. It's a shame that with all the features and the amazing passive skill tree, they couldn't come up with a way to combat the inherent flaws in the isometric perspective.

I think it is interesting to see how much further out the camera is now than it used to be. From another old post:

Huh... here's what max zoom for me is looking like:
![]() Edit: To make it where monsters don't have a big advantage coming from below your character, they could probably modify the agro range. I'm assuming that they're using a circular agro range like most games do. My suggestion would be to change it to something more trapezoidal. ![]() Our current field of vision is something like the left trapezoid (though exaggerated a bit), where our characters are the green dots. If they gave monsters an agro range similar to the right side trapezoid where the red dot is the monster, it would create a "if he can see me, I can see him" system (assuming we're on a flat plane) and should help eliminate the possibility of enemies beginning their attacks before we can see them on our screen. It's basically giving them a camera perspective that's opposite of ours. Not being a game designer myself, there's no way to know if such an idea is feasible. And the odds of them having this idea themselves is probably close to 100%. Last edited by StarlightGamer#6805 on Jan 24, 2013, 7:04:01 PM

I can't stand how far the screen is zoomed in.
It's horrible. Just...horrible. You can't see anything except your immediate area, and even though that may be intended, I seriously dislike it. It isn't a case of needing to 'htfu' as one oh-so-clever poster before me stated. It's an ease of use and asthetics issue. Zero people will play on full zoom-in. Everyone will play on full zoom-out, and wish they could zoom out even further. Having it zoomed in so far adds nothing to the game in my opinion, and will probably be the reason I quit very soon. |

I play the game zoomed in actually.
This was discussed at length during CB and before. to increase the zoom-out (at one point no zoom was enabled at all) - is very taxing on GGG with the amount of work required to implement it. "the premier Action RPG for hardcore gamers."

In Diablo 3, I played the entire game zoomed-in, in spite of the foreground obstacles that would occasionally block my view. PoE's scroll-wheel zoom control was one of the first features I tried out, and I really appreciate how seamlessly it works in all types of combat. For scouting and projectile attacks, you can zoom out to get a bird's-eye view of the in-range battlefield. But when brawling up close, zooming in gives you a detailed view of the in-your-face action. IMHO, no tweaks are needed, PoE's zoom control rocks!

" But...it's already zoomed out further than other past / current arpg games. How far out does it need to be? When you zoom out it impacts performance, balance and enemy AI. It's not a simple matter. There was a lot that went into the zoom out a while back, and to be fair, it's now zoomed out to see a lot of the surrounding area. I'm more worried about the monster aggro range ( mentioned earlier ) because people get really upset about getting shot and hit from off screen. "I would have listened... " Because the viewport is scaled based on the vertical direction only, by using a 16:10 aspect ratio you are at a disadvantage compared to those using 16:9, and will see less of the play area. A 1366x768 16:9 laptop screen will have a larger viewport than a 2560x1600 16:10 screen. People using 4:3 or 5:4 monitors have it even worse, and the UI is not scaled properly so it appears enormous on those types of screens. If you don't mind some black bars or playing windowed you can set a custom resolution to get the larger viewport. Hopefully one day the game will be scaled based on the screen diagonal instead, but if that day ever comes, it probably wont be anytime soon. |

+1 to the needs to be able to zoom out further crowd. The farthest out zoom is not nearly far enough. I noticed on the screenshots posted above, their zoom out is much higher than mine - does resolution played at affect this? For example will playing at 2560x1440 (if you are so lucky to have such a monitor) increase the field of view, or just sharpen the details?
I'm playing at 1920x1080 for reference. |
