80+ levelling

I just went in my first level 72 map yesterday and did well up until I got too close to the double oak bosses and lag died 50 feet from them while the tanks were fighting them. Lesson learned is don't get close to tanky bosses until ES has finished regen because of lag and desynch you never know when hits will register. That's me as a caster and not much damage mitigation. Plus with crashes and other observed lag fests, even Overgrown ruin heavily modded can take people out in seconds and you just see a death screen. To me, that is the most frustrating part now, never knowing and needing to play around these issues. And melee handles all that stuff much more easily than my caster.

But nothing wrong with a break, I have a few more steam games in queue after the sale, plenty to play if I can get away for a bit.

Just want to point out that Oak is on Dark Forest, map level 73. But anyway, any boss that uses attacks should be blinded and enfeebled. Although that won't stop desync, blind and enfeeble will severely cripple any attack based enemy.

I have Enfeeble on my CoWdt but there was so much going on I never noticed if either of them got tagged with it or if I got double-hit when my molten went off. They went down while I viewed the resurrect button. I think it had 50% monster pack and teleporting totems + the dual boss. Since they jumped around it wasn't possible to completely avoid them but I gotta learn when to Warp out. Host was the tank it was nice he let in some lower players my guy is only 78.

I have been with this game from the start check my start date :)

It has changed a lot I mean a hell of a lot and mostly good except for the options level 80's + have now to level before release there was a few we could do but it seems now unless you want to spend hours on hours leveling 2% a hour in lower level safe grounds you risk getting one shotted and losing 15% a time.

I just went through a lvl67 map and got killed three times at lvl 82, resist all 77 armour 8K DPS 15K and I could not even get a shot off to three blue devourers who popped into my face....I was on 45% and dropped to 0 and this has been happening for two months now I am stuck on 82.

I do love this game but I think serious thought needs to be taken as regards to higher level progression I know of a lot of friends who are taking a break and are doing the D3 close beta and PTR as I will now ....

GGG I have supported you from the start but bashing my head and having to restart time and time again because of some random one shot I have run out of love.....

I dont know what your max hp pool is but if you want progress in late game you will find that the best tacktic is to not die i.e maximize your hp pool! With 7.5k ES I find that I can survive mostly everything less I do something very stupid like forgetting that my crit fire traps got no LL and throw em all into huge pack of spiky shooter on deathXD that truly was hillarious!

You're not supposed to get to 90+ unless you have:
1. A lot of time to play, a LOT, and/or
2. A very good, safe, efficient build and/or
3. Very good gear, and/or
4. Friends to party with (I am not sure about this one).
(...)

Lol.

No, you don't need friend, no you don't need a lot of time to play, no you don't need a safe, effcient builds and no you do not need very good gear.

What you need is:
The currency to pay the fee to join lv74+ maps and mediocre skills enough to avoid death.

That's all.

Didn't think about that one, lol. Still, that will not carry you all the way up to 90, 95, 100 without tons of time spent.

Maybe it's just his first character, the first character always sucks in this type of games. I remember my previous witch when I tried to maximize my damage with firestorm, it works very well in normal, but when I entered in cruel/merciless it was a really useless character. Now I have a summoner witch(lvl 81 actually doing 70+maps) because you don't need a great gear to play in end-game phase.(i'm poor at this game lol)

gear check.

post merciless play is a gear check.

look at life, armor, dps.

talk to people who _can_ do those maps.

unless you've really borked your skill tree, which you probably haven't, what you'll find is that you probably can't afford the gear that will let you do those maps safely.

roll an MF character or quit the game, unless you like leveling characters over and over again. i used to like leveling characters just for fun. i got tired of that and started running MF. i'm very interested to see how long it's going to take me to get tired of running lunaris all the time.

oh and what everybody else said about map mods.

Yeah, and using a caster I'm sure is difficult. I'm making a freeze pulser now, and I'm pretty sure he won't be able to get very high into maps before dying (I play solo, although I may do some partying with that character if he's too weak). The aura changes make it very difficult to maintain survivability and DPS on a caster now (at least playing solo). I may use a BM gem, but I didn't want to originally. EB is cool, I wanted to try it again. I also chose to go life instead of CI, I guess I'll see how that works out later on.

But yeah if I have the sockets open I usuallyy try to have a manual enfeeble and decoy/enduring cry since in many cases you want to be preemptive. But depending on the build it may or may not be an option.

IMO, the best defense in the game other than the obvious life/ehp, is block. I am currently trying to figure out how I can incorporate block into my FPer. It may not work out, but I'm going to try.

Why do you even need it in the first place?

It's been the standard rule for decades that the level cap in an rpg is unreachable. Ever capped a characters level in an Ultima game, might and magic, final fantasy, or dragon quest?
Theres some MMO games that have an easily reached level cap (wow and its many clones) but this is done so that player's power is standardized and it doesn't become that raid groups will only
invite you if you are a level 200 character who has been playing since launch. PoE does not
have a need for standardizing characters power.

Therse no real function to leveling past 80, if you can even GET to 80 you already have a character that can kill 99% of the content in the game with ease. Getting stronger wouldn't
change the experience of playing, it would just allow you to run the same maps you already do.

Would the game be better if GGG just set the level cap to 80 or 85? Than the problem would disappear. It's not like that the level 100 cap has any great function other than being a cool
sounding number.
