Level 80 is the " soft cap " leveling past this the game dose not suport the player with content. If u hit level 80 u can farm for god like gear , re roll , or u can level up but with great curency sink to make it happen.
Just try to think of level 80 as the curent 100 dew to content
The only thing you are right about is maybe there being a soft cap around 80. I dont notice it until 85 but..
And no, the SoftCap is whatever the Devs set it to, in this case its 100. But if pretending like its 80 worksbetter for you..
The game has been out long enough. No need to not have a SURE way you sustain level appropriate maps. It is not a luxury you gain xp, or atleast it shouldnt be.
Ive been playing since before there were maps, and ever since they introduced them ive been waiting for a fix.
Seems like they are dodging it though because thats the only reason theres not many 90+

100 is a hard cap.

Disagree. Lategame is meant to be challenging so that only patient ones make it to the end. Look at how well those level 90 players are doing.
Those lvl 90 players have friends in game and are partying all the time. I dont have any friends playing this game and I dislike partying. So how I am supposed to get to 90+ without getting bored and frustrated ? And anyway.... define "only patient ones make it to the end". Define end. For me, the end is when i kill Dominus on Merciless and thats it. Maps are just a bonus for me to hang around with my character for a little bit longer.
I play solo 100%, you can do it if you want to. It does get boring, and it does require maps (which I at many points had to buy from others, but eventually I had a good two days where I built a very nice pool that is currently still in existence, although has dwindled significantly). But it is entirely possible.
Edit: But it also depends highly on your build. If your build is not that great, or is a glass cannon type of build, soloing is much harder. Playing solo requires a build which can deal with anything on it's own, so it's a little harder. But if you build a tanky character, it shouldn't be a problem.
If you really want to solo maps and just beat the shit out of everything, make a block build or at least an endurance charge build. I personally can't see my freeze pulser, for example, getting to 91 like my duelist did. Some builds are fun, but simply not for solo end game.

It has changed a lot I mean a hell of a lot and mostly good except for the options level 80's + have now to level before release there was a few we could do but it seems now unless you want to spend hours on hours leveling 2% a hour in lower level safe grounds you risk getting one shotted and losing 15% a time.
I just went through a lvl67 map and got killed three times at lvl 82, resist all 77 armour 8K DPS 15K and I could not even get a shot off to three blue devourers who popped into my face....I was on 45% and dropped to 0 and this has been happening for two months now I am stuck on 82.
I do love this game but I think serious thought needs to be taken as regards to higher level progression I know of a lot of friends who are taking a break and are doing the D3 close beta and PTR as I will now ....
GGG I have supported you from the start but bashing my head and having to restart time and time again because of some random one shot I have run out of love.....
I ;play nemesis. I have an 82 and 78. The 78 is a pure solo alt that is a lot worse than my main. Honestly,
68 maps are a breeze on my cheapey 78 alt. The only threat is lag. You are clearly doing something very wrong
Post your tree and full gearset. Something is broken, let's look at your real issue and ppl can help

No offense meant, but 67 maps are generally not that hard. If you had a really bad combination of monsters and affixes or something, well, that does happen. If it's happening on a regular basis though chances are something is wrong on the character end. Most common problems are not enough life, not effective enough recovery, or simply charging in when really some more caution is needed (certainly not all builds can be played the same way, some you may run into the middle of the pack but others have to attack from the side).

Jesus.
You should play HC.
It will teach you something about not dying.
No not really, only about making characters with 80% survival builds.

I don't expect to be a top 100 player anytime soon, but it would be nice if GGG would loosen up on the drops.
It's pretty obvious, mouse clicking skill being equal, this game is also slanted towards being a successful trader.

Changing drops would not exactly help... sure, you might be doing a few levels higher maps and leveling slightly higher, in the same amount of time. However, so will everyone else, so those who don't make lots of currency now will still be where they're at relatively speaking. On the other hand, those who do have a decent amount of wealth will get everything even easier, and will have a lot less challenge and fun than they do now.
Map drops, ok, different subject. But the downsides outweigh any benefit for overall item drop changes.
Also, though I don't dispute that good trading helps a lot, there is MUCH more to the game than that. For one, how one builds characters obviously. But play skill too, such as spotting and/or reacting to dangerous situations. I'm not particularly good at hardcore, but I'm certainly better at avoiding death than I used to be. Which at a more basic level is one thing I was suggesting to the OP, perhaps they're trying to just rush in and facetank in situations when their build doesn't allow it.

Soft cap hits when you hit lv90. At that point each level is a real struggle, not something you'll do in a few hours. (This is if you do only lv75-77 maps XD).
