80+ levelling
" the endgame is maps because they're objectively harder
You must have a majorly flawed build. I can solo any map and hardly ever die. I would suggest (like others have) that you get in a party or pay a 1c entry fee for a decent map run and just hang out at the back of the team and let everybody else do the work until you fix whats wrong with your build or learn to play it better. I've seen lvl 80s and 90s die in my 72+ maps at the bosses and rage that I'm the only one left alive and I'm a lower lvl blahblahblah. Get to 0 exp (shouldn't be hard, LoL) and test maps/map mods to see which ones you can/can't do. That's what I do, and I've found out that there are only 2 map mods I can't do because of the massive lag/desync that the mods cause. Like on one map the 400 spiders spawned and teleporting all over and running at 60% inc. speed at the end... |

" there is no challenge in grinding and upgrading your gear actually the OP might have to improve is gear or build... but challenging.... to the OP, if you are playing alone, past lvl 80 the game become a chore oh and pay attention to devourer they are bitch :D |

It's a pain leveling when you're 85+, have been close with my marauder to take 88 but desynced(Not blaming the game, as it's due to a storm that f*cked up our provider up) so gave up and started a new character which is now fairly easy and fast level 80. Just make a new character, try different builds, if you dont like what you've done with one, start a new one. Got 3 80+ at this moment, was about to level my scion but stopped at 58 as I realized it wasnt something for me :)
I Espeically like my new Duelist, which is built around the new unique WoE, very fun indeed It's hard to remember what you have forgotten ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why are police looking for missing people? " You're now losing "only" 10% instead of 15, but I agree with you ;) My personal goal was to reach level 90 for the last level-related achievement. Currently, my char is lvl 85 and it's just way too much of a hassle to level her more. Being a little witch, I can hardly solo the merciless Catacombs, yet alone 70+ maps :D I don't mind partying up with others at all, though, so I've done tons of various maps in parties. But well, leveling up is still painfully slow. With my next char, I'm gonna stick with some pre-made build that people claim to be very viable and see if the leveling will get easier that way O.o |

" I think that is probably a build/gear issue, though. My witch is eleven levels lower than yours and she sweeps through merciless catacombs without breaking a sweat (and only uses self-found items). I enjoy maps more with my scion (more versatile), but catacombs shouldn't give you such trouble.
" Disagree again. I may not fully have the right to say this because my online friend and I are level 89 and 86 each, not level 90 people yet. However we both play solo. What is even worse is that the online friend I got to know is a very stubborn guy. He refused to convert to a more efficient build with higer dps as well as defence but stayed to 1 handed mace physical damage templar with 6K dps. So he farms really slow. However, he plays the game everyday and saves every map to vendor and sell for exalts. He farms only lunaris temple and does this again and again and is prepared to continue doing this until level 100. So my point is...is it really fair to complain that poe is difficult to level when it is also your fault that you do not have the persistence to grind endlessly like my friend and I? You also have to take into account the other point I mentioned, other rpg games have much worse exp systems and there are people with the persistence to do it. Examples are Maple story 1, lineage 2 and cabal online. |

My best char is level 89.
I think leveling is not very painful if you got good gear and maps. Easy to gain exp in 77 - 78 maps (in this level). The last level takes about 1x78, 4-5x77 and some 76 maps. Sadly Im out of the 78, 77, and 76 maps... After im out of the 75, 74 and 73 maps... Now im only have a big pool 70-72 maps only (dont have higher) and i cant gain visible exp and thats why really boring to play with this char. Im only play in solo. I dont have friends with same level, same goals. I dont like partys, i dont like fees. So what can i do? Crying for more highler level map drops? No! Im not crying. I made more another awesome build and have fun. Now im leveling a groundslammer marauder. Im planning to reach level 80-83, and i will start another build. Im thinking to make a build for Oros sacrifice next. Have fun and dont suffer! (Sorry for my bad English) Level 100 Ranger fb_stnemesis
Level 100 Witch fb_HungarianWitch Level 100 Scion fb_scioonn In game mostly at CEST 6PM-8PM (not every day), except weekends |

" My witch is lvl91, got there almost exclusively solo, when I team up with people I carry them and its generally more dangerous for me than playing solo would be. I dont find it a chore, thats a fair point of view and I can understand why some people have it, leveling into the 90s is a long old grind and you have to be the sort of person who enjoys smashing 100s of hours of maps, but personally I really enjoy pushing into hard maps. Grouping is really fun, I love grouping with people but I dont think its necessary to progress. If I died on my witch, a proper death, I would be seriously unhappy. She has died before, at points where Ive leveled and then tested things like double -max temple piety with stone of laz to see if you can facetank melee in double lightning storms, which it turns out she cant and died, but I knew that was coming. Theres been semi intentional deaths like that but a real death in open play when Im trying to level would be devastating, Id be completely gutted, I can appreciate how shitty that feels. But, its been a loooooong time since my witch died in open play, its just not something that happens. Through desync, through -max double reflect vulnerability extra damage as whatever type 77 maps, through aggressive pushy melee play the witch survives, so does my marauder, so does my ranger. I dont put them in harms way, I know what maps and mods they can take, I know what boss fights are too much for them, you have to play smart when you are playing for xp. However a lvl67 map? With those stats? I dunno man, I think something must be wrong if you are dying in a 67 map. Do you have 3k hp or something? CCR5 might have a point, you might benefit from playing some hardcore or races. I dont want to comment on your play because I dont know how you play, you could be amazing for all i know, but I have played with a lot of people and Id say the ones who die a lot, its usually because of how they play. Theyll try and facetank what cant be facetanked, stand in harms way and take hits they could easily have kited etc. Id be willing to bet if I said to any of them Id give you £5000 if you finish this whole map solo without dying they could all do it first time. Once you change how you are thinking from "I must kill these mobs" to "I must stay alive" it becomes easy to just exist on screen with 30+ mobs and take virtually no damage. If you watch someone like Nugi stream, hes racing with 0 resist, 0 health nodes running through screens full of mobs that can hit him for 40% hp and he doesnt break a sweat. Being chased by 50 bandits and hes just kiting through, pulling even more packs, stopping to dps only when he knows hes got a safe window, its like playing Snakes but you dont even have a tail, just keep moving. I dunno if that applies to you and I dont want to sound patronising if it doesnt, but for people reading who find they die a lot its some food for thought. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

While I like to do maps, since I am in nemesis and want to get my first lvl 90 hardcore character, I will be taking this character with a slow and steady approach. I can put in the hours to level but catacombs, piety runs, docks, etc are all boring to me due to the non randomization of the mobs and difficulties. As I get better gear and more levels, they get easier and faster.
I'm currently playing a Cast on Crit CI build. Its not a smooth leveling build due to the RNG involved in crit (or lack of possible investment into crit stats while leveling rather) and the proc chance of the Cast on Crit gem itself. When I first started, I couldn't really get my CoC gems to proc. Now I can clear catacombs fairly safely with exponentially better dps waiting on me. I'll explain below. At lvl 68, I am using a 4l Spectral throw + LMP + CoC + Storm call. By 80, I'll gain Crit Dmg, Crit chance, attack speed, and vaal pact all from the passive tree. I can already fill the screen with lightning from critting yet I have a poorly optimized dagger. Throw in a GOOD dagger and upgrade to 5l and I will essentially double my damage. I'll crit more often and have two spells to trigger instead of one. What about a 6l? Holy cow I can cast THREE spells per crit. Granted, I doubt I will get the currency for it, but my point is the build has potential for CRAZY amount of damage. That crazy amount of damage potential is what will keep me playing and grinding. I don't have to buy some 50 exalt gear piece. I don't have to hit lvl 90 for my build to feel complete. I think this is something people should consider for their future builds. When it feels like you have capped out, you will lose incentive to keep grinding! ign: Vixien Last edited by vixien#0024 on Dec 26, 2013, 9:03:14 AM
