You guys know rampant RMT abuse comes from a shit economy, right?

yeah people say rmt is unbeatable and is everywhere. but the reality is that rmt is only as powerful as the developers let them be.
you don't attack rmt directly , especially in a game where you can make infinite free accounts oh you banned 10,000 accounts ? that explains the 10000 new accounts. trololo. you attack the motivations behind rmt , you attack the loopholes in your own system. 1 every currency needs a reliable measurable method of being acquired that is 100% independent of player interaction. for poe that means crafting recipes for every orb in terms of other orbs or consistently acquirable items that is accessible by everyone and not just botters and end game map level 78 rollers 2 every crafting recipe should have some measure of consistency. I am not saying fusings should always link or 800 fusing = 6l. what I am saying is that every crafting recipe should have a measurable benefit and not a potential detriment. by adding a little consistency you restore faith in the weaker currencies. heck right now fusings prices are crashing specifically because no one has faith in them. smart people do lotteries which allows the lotto starter to dictate the value of a 6l in terms of the lotto pot. will it take 300 fusing? will it take 10000? doesnt matter because lotto says its 10 exa. a wonderful method of exploiting a broken system indeed. dont have enough faith in your own fusing? then remove that uncertainty from the equation and make the noobs of the game throw down the collateral(fusings) at no risk to you. lottos are 100% gggs fault. 3 don't gate shit. the map only uniques was a rmts wet dream , nothing makes price manipulation easier than blatantly excluding content from the majority of players. @BuDiu your post demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of the concept. shitty economy doesn't me an economy that is broken and is doomed to fail. shitty economy means an economy that is inherently exploitable for profit. in this case if your a person without morals shitty economies are the number one thing you invest in. this is why rmt is here to stay specifically because this economy is a gold mine for them. they are making huge profit. people invest money in games like this specifically because not doing so is unattractive , its not moronic. its simple math , if a guy can work 8 hours a day and buy 8 exalted orbs from an rmt site well that is a logically sound investment 8 hours vs 8000 hours. is this really that hard to understand? " right, but a guy who spends money, will more than likely spend said money ON ANY GAME he plays. Good or "Bad" economy, people will pay to win at all levels. Also the giant list i made is pretty much EVERY SINGLE successful ever online multiplier game. (Excluding games are that dont really involve any sort of meaningful economy like certain types of shooting games etc) All those games listed have HUGE RMT player base. Hence why so many Chinese 3rd party sellers offer their currency or whatever service they offer. BECAUSE THERE IS A MARKET FOR IT. Be it SMALL MEDIUM or LARGE. Obviously there is a variance that is tightly attached to player base and currency system. But the truth is: Any game that is highly based on items, and godly items can be made from obs or gold or WHATEVER form of currency, you will have 1000s of people spending $$. And that my friends, is the ugly truth about todays online gaming. |

while your view is valid it is only part of the picture , yes any popular game will have rmt
however , the size of that rmt presence is dictate in how amicable the conditions are and poe is far more amicable than all those games you listed |

" you serious? RMT was wayyyy bigger in d2 / d3 / wow / GW2 and others. also not to mention, newer games will ALWAYS have more RMT, thats because its a much simpler thing nowdays and widely known thing. Back when wow started or d2 etc RMT was almost non existent for other reasons. That was because RMT was not big back in the day. Now its so easy and convenient that its everywhere in massive scales hence its much more noticeable in the past 4-5 years. Last edited by BuDiu#0138 on Dec 24, 2013, 10:49:02 AM

" only because those games were WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY bigger than poe , think about it in proportions. for a game the size of poe , the rmt presence is massive. and d2 was only heavily botted because it was 1 the most popular game of the genre in its time 2 it is old and blizzard has stopped trying in earnest to stop rmt Last edited by Saltychipmunk#1430 on Dec 24, 2013, 10:50:16 AM

" what does d2 botting has to do with RMT? do u know LEWT? More of a importing issue not botting. Something that thank god nowdays game dont suffer from and the main reason why offline play is not offered by most games of this type. Like RMT, you cant stop botting either. Those 2 go hand in hand and every single attempt EVER in history of man kind, has failed to stop botting and RMT. Also i'd like to know where do you see the scale of POE RMT problem. Because i sure as hell dont know how you know what % of the playerbase actually spend money on pixels. |

Let's just be clear here for a moment;
There is an opportunity for manipulation, exploitation and RMT at every layer of character progression in PoE. In every regard with the items - sockets, socket color, links, affixes etc and even progression due to maps being it's own exclusive type of currency. ~ How fun is it being stuck doing level 66-68 maps gaining exp at a snails pace then to have the day's progress be thrown out because of some single BS death? ~ All incentives to bypass the otherwise limiting and inordinately random/unrewarding system. GGG hasn't made a better economy by not using gold, they've instead made an ecomony with layers on layers of incentives to cheat. If they want to limit RMT they have to remove these compounding incentives, it's just that simple. |

" dude gold is the exact same thing. Except one type of "currency aka gold" buys everything you could possibly need instead of buying different types of orbs. And most games offer all types of layers that you are talking about... |
|
|
Also lets say you COMPLETELY remove all layers.
Nothing in the entire game is tradable. There is no gold etc. Everything has to be archived by playing the game and doing missions for example. Guess what the people who RMT will do? They will pay the same RMT companies to instead of giving 100 exalted orbs, just play their character until what they reach the progress point they want. Its the player mentality, not the system that is broken. |
|
" WoW has done all of that, including BoP and BoA items, massive increase of easy to get resources and gold, and yet RMT is very strong in that game. Gear in D2 was never that hard to get, and yet bots and RMT were everywhere. The type of person who buys from RMT sites will always buy from RMT sites, even if it may not be necessary. As long as it is a shortcut, even a small one, and gives an advantage, nothing will change on a fundamental level. It's a social problem more than a technical one.
