Where do you think RL money comes from? Do you think there's some finite amount? Every government on the planet 'creates' money out of thin air.

Stop blaming Chinese farmers and blame bad game design. Every other online game has an economy without the level of RMT in PoE.

RMT is especially huge in PoE compared to other trading games because our economy sucks dick so players give up and RMT to progress.

This post is worthless without numbers.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

You are wrong sir.

The state of the economy has nothing to do with people using RMT.

Also, I'm not sure if you're talking about the supply side of things or the demand side of things, so I'll cover both.

A) There is nothing wrong with the supply side of things other than an overly deterministic RNG which provides its results in streaks rather than truly random drops.

Likewise, even in the best organized economy there are people who try to exploit that economy or counterfeit currency or steal currency or launder currency and this is one form of extracting economic rent. Sports memorabilia is a good example of extracting rent. Taxes, also a good example. Tickle-me-elmos were sold for 2,000 to 5,000 dollars at the height of their popularity.

That isn't a problem with the economy, that is a problem with bad faith actors. What that means is that people, when they recognize an opportunity for profit will regard rules and ettiquete and the safety or well being of other in order to obtain that profit. That means that these people who are selling currency or other MMO gold, knowing that it is explicitly against terms of service and other various laws, so they are profiting off of that and then also stealing their customer's accounts and credit card information. So really?

B ) Then on the demand side of things, you have people are buying currency and items so that they can get ahead in the league, or selling currency and items so that the RMT websites can make a profit.

The ones buying know what they are doing is against the terms of service and against the spirit of the game, should know the risks associated with that sort of trade, risks which include having your account and credit card number stolen, and don't care.

The ones selling are probably so fed up with the game or so poor that they don't care. Or they are ridiculously lucky with the drops.

C ) So a jewelers is worth 2 alts, and a fusing is worth 4 jewelers, and a chaos is worth 2 and one half fusings, and a divine is worth 9 chaos, a divine is rarer than an exalted orb, an exalted orb is worth 3 divines, an eternal orb is worth 2 or 3 exalted orbs.

[this analogy is only flawed because I am inserting it into a discussion about RMT]
So a chaos is roughly equivalent to a $5 dollar bill, and a divine is roughly equivalent to a $50, so there is no rough equivalent of a $20 or a $100. What we need is more currencies that have the amount of utility anywhere between a chaos and a divine or a divine and an exalted.

Huh? Level 87 Nemesis here, and that myth about stable HC economies is a tired tool used for bating people into our leagues. The Nemesis economy is as much of a shit filled outhouse as any other league, because we are plagued with the same exact problems....drop rates that leave players 85+ feeling demoralized, and a late game crafting system that is only used by people who belong in gamble-aholics anonymous or noobs who don't know any better.
