You guys know rampant RMT abuse comes from a shit economy, right?
|
Think you got it backwards, there. The economy is caused by RMT. That's why items are either worth a shitload or basically nothing, why orbs exchange rate between players doesn't match exchange rate from merchants, why the rarest orbs in the game are only worth a fraction of their real intended value, and why perfect items even become available in the 4 month leagues.
Anyway, it's fucked that youtube can go after small-fry content uploaders over copy-write claims and yet these RMT can just leech off a game to it's vast detriment and nobody really gives a shit. Ppl want to blame the mechanics of the game instead, which is fairly rediculous frankly. |
|
" The point is there are hundreds of different build to try out. I don't want to make 100 piss poor builds because I don't have 100 exalt to make each one good. I'm damn sure not going to play 2000 hours per character I create. The pathetic drop rate make me want to stop playing because what the point of making another shitty character that has crappy gear I already have several of them. |

The duration leagues are overall the best fix to this problem. PoE really does have the tools to keep a stable economy. It's just a matter of managing the tools and keeping the currency relevant.
Standard will become bloated with items and such to a point of where you're either rich and have the best gear or are poor and are hoping for a drop worth more than an alc orb. D2 even got this way. It was very uncommon to see people using even rares. But this is really nothing new. RMT are here because the game is popular, the game is free and the community keeps buying it. Has little to do with how good or bad the economy is. The AH of D3 failed because it removed a very important aspect of the game. Player interaction. If this game took the trading board, put it in game, added a search function that worked like Poe.xyz.is. It would be fine. As long as you had to message that player and trade with them how you do now. No instant trading. It would only do one thing for this game. Remove the need to alt+tab. And it would save time to do the exact same thing. It's all the game needs as far as AH's go. As far as orbs(mainly Chaos) becoming worthless. It all comes down to recipes. Chaos orbs really don't offer much to a heavy crafter. Most will start with alts then work up. Not alc, then chaos till they get something. People are not using them as much, so more and more sit around. It's just a matter of giving it a new use. -Chaos+Fusing = instant 4 link, small chance of 5 link, no chance of 6 link Ideally for gloves/boots/helm. But could be use for a higher chance at 5 link if you're willing to give up the chance of a 6 link. -Chaos+Jewelers = instant 4 socket, small chance of 5, no chance of 6 Same as above. -Chaos+Chromatic = ignores "prefered" colors of an item Amazing for those hard to get colors when you want red/blue on an evasion armor. -Chaos+2 Exalted = Randomizes last two properties of an item Idea here is that you have to be willing to give up a second stat to reroll another. If it was just one, it could be abused easily. If both stats are bad then it's a win/win. -Chaos+Divine = Randomizes only one property, chosen at random. Quality of roll increases based on number of random properties. Same as above, overall avoids abuse but can make your item amazing. If it's an item that has one or two properties that are random(usually uniques) this may not be worth it. Overall, PoE's economy setup is amazing and GGG has the tools to keep it in check. RMT will always be there as long as the game stays popular, the game stays free and people keep buying it. Or even just 2 of those things. |

" That sounds adorable. IGN: SplitEpimorphism

" Note: I haven't read this whole thread. Gearing up IS the game though. Like, really. What do you do once you have all the epic loot you want? The character is essentially 'done' at this point. I understand this logic, but am baffled by it at the same time. The want for the gear is intended as the motivation, not the end result to me. All the time making the build, hoping for the kit, etc is the game. Once you get it, it's all over. Like, rhetorical question; What do you get Bill Gates for his birthday? |
|
" The idea that gearing up a single character is going to make people stop playing is absurd. Spell caster use different gear than melee who use different gear than ranger character and crit gear is totally different than RT. You would need about 7-8 sets of gear to be able to play most any build and you would still need the specialized uniques that support the build. Right now you either spend hundreds/thousands of hours trading to get really good gear or you do without(RMT removed from the equation). D2 had shitty drop rates but players said F#@% that and botted and duped items to make the drop rate far better. Guess what D2 was loved with the better drop rate created by dupes and bots. This game has potential to be like D2 in the customization and constant rerolling of new builds but the drop rates being hand made for AH Tycoon D3 players is BS. Gear enables your build in PoE. The skill tree defines your build but the gear enables it. That leads to frustration and bad builds because they don't have the gear for the chosen build.
Crafting doesn't exist in POE. Gambling does...and the house always wins.
Velocireptile - I LOL'ed. Which made me fart. I wish the office were empty right now :( Hardlicker - I had to push the dog out of the way so I could get to the sexy quilt. |

" I'm sorry I still don't understand. I am new around here, but this is me so far; Level 50 Marauder, no trading, has face-stomped all the way to Act 2 cruel so far, no problem. All gear is drops. Level 76 Witch, 2 trades (wants, not needs) has face-stomped all the way to end-game. Even easier. See, I don't believe you 'need' all this gear to have a build. My thoughts are (for true necessity); - Skill gems - planned passive tree These two things are truly necessity. You absolutely must have both if you wish to succeed. Having said that, you don't 'need' anything beyond. The rest are 'wants'. Like my summoner as example; I 'want' that Montegrul (no idea how it's spelled) wand. It would make me more powerful, farm faster, stronger, etc etc. Do I actually 'need' it to progress? No. I'd like the Shavronne/Defiance robes. Don't need em, but again I'd be stronger, etc, but they are wants. There are tons of things I 'want'. That's what keeps me playing. I got all I 'need' from the skill planner on this site, and the skill gems from quests. " This is pretty foolish, unless you already posses the items you want to make said build. No sugar-coating. I don't go out and 'plan' to have a new ferrari to get to work in 5 minutes either. It's not realistic. If someone dropped teh keys in my lap, well, then I might start planning to wake-up later now that I can get to work in 2 minutes, but until I have a magical ferrari, I'm not going to be simple and plan my life like I have one. Planning a build around an item is not wise, until you have said item. Generic builds are superior. I.e. My marauder is a "two-handed melee" end of build description. Not a 'erqi-only 2h maul koam chestpiece, 2 koam ring' character. For builds based around gear, that is a longevity feature for players that have accumulated said gear. So far in leveling these two, I got some icy-chestpiece, and icy-shield, so my next char might be an icy-tank like scion. Depends, more gear to find ;) Last edited by gr00grams#5298 on Dec 23, 2013, 11:21:46 PM

" Early days mate. =) Do be sure to repost when you've done another 8 to 12 months. |

" Ugh what's with these posts lately? Seems like it may be one of the following or a combination of: ass kissing, GGG in disguise, someone training to be a mod or.... Oh I don't know, passive aggressiveness perhaps? I've been away for a while and have noticed several in the last few days. This is a genuine question. I'm not attacking or trying to antagonize. |
