The obvious micro transaction cash grab?
" I know. And he was being that way because he disagrees with the TS, thus the uninformed, snarky, sarcastic comment. I quite agree with the OP, which is why I replied to his sarcastic comment the way that I did. |

" That's not a solution, really. I remember that after ~$1.5 mln. was donated by supporters Chris said that they have a long way to go to become profitable. This probably means that in order for PoE to really prosper and last for many years it HAS to target fellows who can't spend more than $10-20 once every few months. And as I wrote earlier, GGG will have to fight for those customers with other gaming companies. Let's take Riot's (LoL) marketing model: they constantly have a rotation of $7.5 skins that are sold for $3.75, and $4 skins that are sold for $2. Mind you, $7.5 skins look very good for the most part. Then they have $14 skins that don't get discounts, but those have unique custom animations and new voices. There is also Valve with their f2p titles (TF2 and Dota 2), which have different, but also quite successful microtransaction systems. Why am I writing this? Because it would be naive to think that PoE users won't play other games (not necessarily the ones that I've mentioned). And if they do, they will have the freedom of choice: do I get the $20 weapon glow in PoE or a $14 LoL Legendary skin or a $20 indie holiday bundle containing 5 great titles? EDIT: You can even take GGG's own success during Closed Beta. They sold quite a lot of Packs, but why? Because people loved the opportunity to get Beta access + credit points + pets + other goods like posters/soundtrack/shirts. Last edited by Kurili#3684 on Jan 23, 2013, 7:50:48 PM

It feels like they're gouging new players.

I'm very disappointed in the new pricing too.
It was my understanding that the cost of points would not go below the 10 points for $1 rate of all of the open beta options. GGG have always stated that you would get more points with these new packs since they only include points and not any sort of bonus items. Now, they reveal the pricing and there's a penalty for the 2 cheapest packs and no bonus points from the Closed Beta rate until you spend at least $50. I intentionally chose not to spend $25 to upgrade my Kiwi pack to Bronze because I decided I would rather have the small number of promised bonus points to spend on other items instead of the fancier Kiwi. I didn't care about the "Bronze Supporter" title and didn't need more keys with Open beta fast approaching. Now, the closest available pack is 200 points for $20. I'm not spending my money on that. I was expecting the promised bonus points for loss of Kiwi/Title/Beta Keys. Instead, I get the same point rate and just lose out on all of the extras because I decided to trust GGG and wait to make my purchase. If they had at least announced the packs before the start of Open Beta, I wouldn't be complaining. I would have made an informed decision and upgraded to Bronze. Now I feel misled and I'm not spending any more than I already have. Congratulations on a lost sale. |

" I wouldn't have cared at all if they told us they were going to change the pricing. I think it would've been really smart if they announced they were changing the pricing a week before OB. Then TONS of people would've bought points/coins or whatever they're called. Oh well, everyone makes mistakes. And they just set a precedent. GGG is willing to change the pricing without even consulting or telling the community. So... will they do it again? I'd like to know.. Last edited by PathofExileVideo#6947 on Jan 23, 2013, 8:02:25 PM

I'm in agreement with the OP here. I've no qualms with the price point - that's GGG's prerogative. I do however take issue with the pricing for the low tier point conversions. As much as I like the company and the product, this is a business practice I detest. The price point is already higher than other games I've seen. I feel there's no reason to shave off a few points just to influence players to buy $20 or larger packs.
I'm going to be blunt. What's been done here is a marketing mistake. Every item in the shop has a price divisible by 5, yet the point conversions are not. When the price point is already set so high, there is no reason to do this. The prices should have been scaled in such a way to allow the first three conversions to yield 50, 100, and 200 points respectively. The following scheme would have been ideal: $5 - 50 points $10 - 100 points $20 - 200 points $50 - 525 points $100 - 1050 points $250 - 2750 points With such a pricing scheme, every player who purchases smaller packs incrementally won't feel cheated while players purchasing the larger packs are still rewarded. Players are rewarded with 5% more points for purchases of $50 and $100 and 10% more for a purchase of $250 without incurring an obvious penalty for choosing to buy smaller packs. Overall the players who can't afford large purchases are happier while the average points received per dollar spent across all options drops from 10.97 to 10.75. I was planning to spend roughly $20 on this game, but after seeing the pricing structure, I will no longer be doing so. I do not approve of this business decision. |

I'm also disappointed in the pricing too. Kinda hate when company use weird pricing like this, you will always have left over money that can't afford anything. Unless you spend more money. I was going to spent more money on this game just for cosmetic stuffs, but now idk. Perhaps it's our fault for putting too much expectation GGG. They're a business company after all.

Lol, people crack me up. Has anyone noticed none of the people complaining have any supporter avatars? Cheap bastards. GGG is by far the most ethical developer I have dealt with in my 20 plus years gaming. They deserve their 5 bucks for 46 points. Uninstall and play something else.
Edit: if I was Chris, I would lower it to 40 points just for the ungrateful responses to a COMPLETELY FREE FULL LENGTH GAME. All purchasable items are cosmetic. Last edited by Jebroni2k12#5462 on Jan 23, 2013, 8:09:52 PM
