Life also pairs well with regeneration. If you have enough regeneration, even a hit that does 50% of your health can be overcome.
Think of it like:
Life and regeneration make up your cake, while armor and resistance are the delicious frosting that goes on top.

The is one boss did u 10k, with 1k armour u will received.
Player one 4k life and 14k armour
Player two 4.5k life and 10k armour.
Player one take reduction of ~60%, that mean he will take 4k dps.
Player too take reduction of ~50%, that mean he will take 5k dps.
Player three - 12k armour and 4250 life.
Player three take reduction of ~55%, that mean he will take 4500 dps.
All players died :D
But there are no 10k dmg in the game i think.

And? 5% life regen from 4.5k is 450/s. from 4k is 400/s and i dounbt u can have 5% life regen, so think about it.

84life is just about 250-300 life.

Fun fact: 84 damage reduction is 84 damage reduction. That life is still more absorption against any real hit than the armour is.
12k armour nis +1k max health for OHKO. You don't need to know more than that when deciding whether you want armour or health.

IMO
Primary source of defense - Life and ES
Secondary form of defense - Armor and Evasion
You mix a primary with a secondary to have a good defense, and you cant compare them. ie You wont go anywhere in end game with 700 hp and 40k armor.

What? Where do you get these reduction values?
If you have 12k armour, you will reduce a 1000 hit to 500. That's 50% of a 1000 hit, at 12k armour. So to reduce say, a 5k hit to 50%, you're going to need 60k armour. Do you think you can keep up with that?
Armour is good, but only if it's cheap, because it relies on life, scales poorly and isn't 100% general.

the more armour you have, the less more armour is worth. Life on the other hand is a linear scale. Guess which one is way more effective to stack.
