Also.....is proliferated ignite considered area of effect damage?

I extremely highly doubt it. It's not a burn aoe but rather an aoe that apply a burn debuff and then that debuff deals damage.

Isn't this what poison arrow actually does though? And Chris mentioned it benefits from AOE increases.

no, poison arrow doesn't apply a debuff which then deal damage. It deals damage and that damage apply the debuff.

Indeed far too many open questions:

Is Chin Sol the new best bow for poison arrow? Does the damage of the cloud increase by 100% for all targets under the cloud if the initial hit is on a target right in front of you?

As of now multistrike increased the speed and targets hit for viper strike - when fighting exactly 3 monsters it's as if you hit 1 without multistrike. Now the 36% less damage modifier should affect the poison damage, but the increased melee physical damage for leveling multistrike should not? Similar effects for melee splash. This would be a nerf for viper strike.
Also, I know you indicated that DoTs won't be impacted by spell damage increases... but what about searing bond? It states on the gem that it's a spell so shouldn't spell damage impact that?

Unless you're saying that SB spell only summons a totem and it's the totem that does DoT hence spell damage doesn't buff SB damage...

but by that same token, the poison cloud isn't in and of itself a projectile but receives projectile bonuses because it came from the projectile, so shouldn't SB damage recognise spell damage increases since it's DoT coming from a spell?

Edit: also, ranged attack totem doesn't state "spell" so it implies that the spell affix refers to the searing bond and not the summoning of the totem itself

You got that wrong.

Poison arrow has two parts, an explosion on contact that does a regular damage, then an cloud that gives a debuff to those that are inside. The debuff certainly does the damage.

does Magic Find now work if a monster is killed by DoT?

So what about the bug that prevents IIQ & IIR gems from being applied to mobs that die from DoTs?

On-hit effects do not apply to damage over time.

Meaning no.
What I don't understand is if your added lightning damage (i.e.) is considered part of your burning damage or extra DoT that does not benefit from increased burn.

PS: An indept explanation article about how DoT exactly works now would be rly great GGG.

Feels like the DoT buff is a stealth nerf to Mind Over Matter given degen applies straight to health.

Is there any reason philoshically that MoM shouldn't protect you from DoT?

This was already answered here. Mark confirmed IIR/Q support gems work.

No, I meant that's how the cloud works.

The entire skill is this:

Shoot an arrow that deals damage and then spawn an aoe effect called poison cloud. The cloud deal chaos damage over time to enemies in it. That damage apply the debuff (which is really just informing you that you are standing in a poison cloud).

Unless Mark comes in and contradict me :P
