Why PoE doesn't need floating combat text

+1 for (optional) FCT! For me it is not detrimental to the immersion at all.
It feels like the OP was just proud he learned the word 'obfuscate'.

Everything is opinion at the end of the day. Stating this doesn't refute the points I bring up. The difference is, I qualified my opinion with ideas and a comparison. I'd appreciate an argument which nullifies mine, one that uses evidence from other games, or something, instead of a dismissal just because it's an idea you don't like.

And yes, pokemon is a different "kind" of game, but it's a RPG, with many similarities. Tell me, aside from beta-testing purposes, where we might want number data to make sure mechanics in POE are working as intended, why do we need floating combat text? Why should the developers waste their time implementing this feature? It serves no purpose towards the nature of this game.

The fact of the matter is that the majority of todays gamers want to see the numbers. They enjoy it for a multitude of reasons. If you are unaware of these reasons, but making posts about why its bad, I'm afraid theres no gain in explaining them to you, as you've chosen to be ignorant already.

There is simply no good reason for GGG to not put an option for it.(turned off by default)

GGG - Why you no?
I've always found those numbers and overly large health bars rather distracting. In the end, either the monster or you are dead. End of story. How you got there - who cares or remembers after the next few fights? So if GGG decides one day to implement combat text, I really hope it's optional. :-)
This is one of those issues where it comes down to personal preference. Noone is right or wrong for wanting or not wanting FCT & it literally comes down to what you prefer is the right option for you. Boring but it is what it is.

As far as the game is concerned it shouldn't have to be one way or the other and giving players the option would seem to be the best course of action all round.

As far as GGG is concerned "Adding more options to games is generally a bad thing. The goal of the game designers is to create a system of restrictions that challenge the players, rather than throw in dozens of options and allow the players to try to find a fun game in there somewhere."

...so I don't think we will be seeing options (for anything) any time soon.

Been waiting for the simple fast patch that would allow ctrl + click to buy from vendors for far to long, and there hasnt even been a casual mention of it. GGG seems to move pretty slowly. But ...

Good game is good game, so w/e.
