[Kripp] RoS < POE
" Of course you can play both games. It doesn't seem like you enjoy PoE though. I often see people argueing about what's wrong with PoE and what should change for it to become 'good'. Most of those people lack understanding about the core of the game and state things that would in the long run be bad for the game. It's those kind of people I tell it's not their game. |

RoS promises endless progression which PoE doesn't have - you can level up to infinite and keep getting points to spend in your stats (yes, even after plevel 800 you get points to spend in core stats).
The end game is nicely randomized and sandbox mode is awesome because the story was crap to begin with and I don't want to have to go through it even one more time. The great thing about this is that you can even level up a brand new character exclusively in Act 5 if that's your shiz. PoE char progression is tied to the story and you have to finish the storyline three times (granted, its much better than D3). The random end game dungeons in RoS feel a little flat and that is, I think, because Blizzard is just a bit too shy to blatantly steal PoE's map system in its entirety but it remains to be seen what they come up with since this is some of the most common feedback. The itemization in RoS seems great as it really allows you to build around pretty much any skill, but more importantly, you can't buy your items from a website (which is now making PoE outright p2win). This is a big erection killer for me. Finally, since they pretty much all but confirmed a meaningful ladder system (remember that paragon levels are infinite) that is going to make RoS everything I really need in a game of this type. Sure, the complexity of mechanics in PoE is great, but only until you google your way to the bottom of the pit and there is nothing left to discover in this regard. It becomes a very shallow game when you take away that illusion of depth that dazzles you when you are just starting out in the game. |

" And for me, that alone is a deal breaker. None of my characters are likely to ever hit level 100 in PoE, so the ceiling isn't something I will necessarily scratch, but I like that there is a ceiling. If I ever decide to do the grind, because I find a build I really enjoy and can't get enough of (like my pre-1.10 lightning nova sorc in D2), then I will have a clearly defined goal and a destination that I can focus on. Just like level 99 in D2, or Grand Marshal in 2004/5 WOW, to find the Amulet of Yendor in Nethack, etc. That point where a character "ascends" and is finished (other than gear improvements). What D3 RoS offers is a hamster wheel. You'll never get there, you'll never be done, not even if you're willing to put in the time or the effort. A ladder won't change that, because if something endless like "staying in the top 10" becomes the goal, playing the game becomes a compulsive activity where you can't take a break (I learned that in vanilla WoW's PvP rank system). That kills any interest for me. They use the same carrot-on-a-stick system in WoW even now: you will never get there, never be done.
" Bit hostile? You really think solo self-found is viable for end-game? I've been watching Kripp stream RoS and he's been getting really good loot, to the point where he's now farming Torment 6, granted he's doing it with a bugged ability, but still. Also the only Blizzard game I own is D3, in fact it's actually the only Blizzard game I've played. |

You guys do realise that the title actually says Kripp prefers PoE right? D3<Poe... not D3>PoE.

" I think it's a matter of "scope". Personally, I played D2 for years and I never got tired of it, because there were always new builds I wanted to try, or items I found that I then wanted to build a character around. 99 wasn't something I tackled early on, either. PoE loot can be frustrating, especially in the short term. But if you want to play the game for years to come, then self-found is a solid way to ensure that you don't get bored of the game. Your next treasure hunting or crafting session could be the one that really gives one of your characters a decisive boost. For me, that's fun, and presumably to the player you responded to, as well. In RoS with its class-tailored "good loot", where do you keep getting motivation from? You'll probably constantly get "good loot" appropriate for your endlessly increasing level. That sounds good on the surface, or if you plan to play the game for a few weeks, but in my eyes this is a recipe for boredom. It fully fits in the rest of what I feel is a chief issue of D3: it's all same-y, flat, bland. PoE can piss you off, yes. It can make you rage and foam and bitch about how hard, unfair, stingy it is. But it can also make you scream "Fuck, yay!" when you do get what you want or hope for, get real excitement from drops, and fill you with a sense of achievement when you do get what you wanted. In the end, it all depends on what you want from a game. If you look for a short affair with a hay fire of fun, and then ask yourself, "What do I play now?", RoS will meet that. If you look for something that lasts you a bit longer, that almost-MMO-like experience without the competitive aspect (if you play self-found, what other people do doesn't matter), and you want a game you can play for years to come, PoE meets that desire much better than D3 will or can. It's not a matter of "better" or "worse", just one of the games being different. I don't want PoE to be like D3, and I am sure avid D3 enthusiasts don't want D3 to be like PoE. Choice is a Good Thing.
I'll play RoS for a few weeks but from Athene and Kripp's streams there is still no reason to play past the campaign for long. POE is not going anywhere and neither are its hardcore players. D3 will still be very casual.

I think I will try ROS when its out but its not gonna last long :) maybe 50-100hour and then bored as fuck. No builds = blaah. But D3 gameplay is EPIC, graphics is shit..
Now Im bored with poe.. No interesting builds, played toooo much. And yeah played new leagues, 80lvl nemesis, but cant play for ladder because of too much life stuff(lol). Gonna play titan quest/D2&D1/grim dawn or something like that for a while :) Hope they can reduce desync and add/update some skills. IGN: Wanderiin

" Did you even play d3? RoS is actually breaking the game by turning d3 into a RNG based lottery. |
