I hope that after RoS I will be able to forget retarded junction of two words: economy and aRPG, which, for me, should not be used in other meaning that "economy doesn't apply to aRPG".

If I'm name one thing I hate in modern aRPGs, is their tradecore experience.

+1

The essence of ARPGs is loot-finding and progressing through more and more difficult content by loot-finding & lvlup-ing. It was never about trading, because trading defeats the purpose of all these things.

Now, some people like to trade for some reason and I think they should have the means to do so. (Godly) gear for eg. should be tradeable, but this should never mean that you cant progress without the need to trade.

But especially never, never should content be gated behind trading. PoE is the only ARPG where you are forced to trade, to be able to access content. Even evil moneywhoring Blizzard, with all the D2 heritage raping, didn't come up with such an horrid idea, that goes against the essence of ARPGs.

For a start, get the idea that everyone should have access to all content out of your head. That same bullshit whiny bitch argument is what ruined games like WoW. Secondly, you are absolutely not forced to trade in this game at all, I rarely trade for things, and when I do it's mostly gems. You can very easily play solo, get decent gear and get to high level maps.

Because whats the point in paying developers to create content and actually risk having more of their customer enjoy that content in a way that can at least recoup the development costs of making that content if not even a profit?

this target audience (people with 10+ hours a day for gaming) is not exactly known to be able to sustain any business. to put it short: money. is not there.

you can create hardcore to the core singleplayer/offline games. but once servers and their upkeep costs are in - stuff gets real.

so dont fool yourself any longer - this 'target audience' is different than GGG target audience simply because they have to make money and 12yo pupils in most cases have 0$ disposable income
Diablo 3 = COD.

PoE = Arma.

The end.

Anybody else here that thinks the numbers in D3 are getting ridiculous? 60.000 HP? 500.000 Toughness?

WTF?

Every game does that and the longer these patched games run the more power creep builds up and the faster it scales. Its like a singularity AI in how fast it grows exponentially. Like in wow with tanks having 1.2+ MILLION hitpoints. They have to actually do a number crunch to make every number smaller now just to make it readable again.

Course its the same here, power creep is an inevitable part of the developers constantly patching a game and we seem to demand it when we scream for stuff to not be nerfed. Path of Exile is a number based game that runs on power creep in its end game just as much as any other ARPG.

And its not limited to just power but to narrative as well.

This is a commonly used argument that is contructed by fear. The same argument politics made about tax reforms and that companies would go away. End of story was they didn´t and some could even focus on that by focusing on their first intention ... a niche product with a target audience.

But there´s no point to argue with someone about gamedesign when he´s acting like he´s working in the marketing department and only have sales and money in focus.

Also right there, this attitude is why AAA titles and companies are more and more in doubt. Because people arguing like you are in position where they tell how a game should be whilst they only have money in mind.
