Ran into this very same error. Posted resolution did work allowing the game to download and patch successfully: 1. Navigate to Path of Exile folder (default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile) *Mine is installed to the D: drive so this was not the path of install for me 2. Delete everything EXCEPT Content.ggpk (yes this means EVERYTHING) 3. Download and run the latest game installer from the official website (https://www.pathofexile.com - PathOfExileInstaller.exe). On install, it will prompt for Repair...etc. Choose Repair. 4. When complete, it will extract the PathOfExile.exe. Running Windows 7 64-bit.
"Absolutely confirmed. Goto the game folder and manually delete everything but "content.ggpk". Then install from the official site, it will notice a problem and ask to repair or uninstall. Choose repair, run the installer and Viola!" This solution worked for me as well. Thanks to everyone who is helping in this regard. The Sleeper has awakened...

Hello from 2019. Deleting everything and reinstalling from scratch fixed the problem. GGG, might want to consider including a repair option without having to do that.

Another fellow in 2019. Downloading their latest build did NOT allow me to select a repair option or where to install to. Going to try and get the installation to my game drive.

Had the same problem. There are some older download links on the internet that give you this problem. Easiest fix was to download straight from the website (www.Pathofexile.com) You can only download it once you log in.
