When diablo 3 RoS comes out, PoE will die and the future will repeat itself
RoS is going to annihilate PoE. I love PoE but anyone who's aware of the improvements, changes, and new features in RoS realizes that it'll eventually be the better game. I've been watching the streams of the Friends & Family beta and it's awesome.

I love PoE. It is superior to D3 is so many ways. Has actual end game. Better skill system. Better currency system(though trading on PoE is a bitch and there's almost no support for it). Better crafting system. Better spells/skills. However, when all is said and done, D3 has a much, much, much larger fan base, most of which are currently playing PoE. When RoS comes out, they will all flock to RoS. That will just about kill PoE on site. You can say "Oh they'll play for a week and come back when they realize it's bad.", but that's wishful thinking. They might quit D3 in a week, but PoE will be dead and buried by then, so they won't be coming back here. No one wants to log into a dead game. I don't want to see PoE die, but I just don't see any way around it. RoS will have to fail EXTREMELY hard in order for PoE to stand a chance of surviving, and that's just asking for too much.

I would trade my D3 collector edition content and account for 20$ of microtransitions in POE in an instant.
Story, lore and writing: PoE 8/10, D3 3/10 gameplay: PoE 8/10, D3 5/10 Difficulty/challenge: PoE 9/10, D3 6/10 Graphics: PoE 8/10, D3 6/10. Item design: PoE 9/10, D3 4/10 PoE = dark, realistic and gritty. D3: Flashy and cartoony. Legendaries in D3 are boring, unimaginative and no creativity. Watched the RoS streams. Nothing special. Trailer got my hopes up, streams showed me reality. The same boring unchallenging stuff drowning in special effects. What does D3 have on PoE? Prettier I guess. Zzz... |

" Marvel Heroes didnt died with PoE steam release so this crappy game wont too with RoS. |

" I'm currently of the same mindset. Most of us bought D3 based solely on the Diablo franchise and Blizzard's reputation of making a great arpg. We all know now that was a big mistake as D3 is a product of corporate greed and not a great successor to D2 (easily explains the major fallout of the top D2 devs. from Blizzard North and its subsequent shutdown by Blizzard). For Blizzard to gain back my trust in them as great story tellers and arpg developers it is going to take much more than some game reviewers high scores based on superficial game play. I'm in the "fool me twice, shame on me" mindset now and D3 SoL will have to be getting great player comments on the forums before I take any interest in it. GGG still has a window of opportunity here and if they can some how manage to fix some of the broken aspects of PoE (gambling a.k.a. crafting, desync, more middle and end game quality loot) they will be able to survive the release of SoL. But that is a big IF right now and as a small company with limited HR the task ahead of them is daunting. "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration. The perfect solution to fix Trade Chat: www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2247070 |

Most will go to ROS, I know I will all that will be left is the same 10 fanboys we see in every thread. Ill come back eventually to check it out but to me POE has the exact same problems D3 suffered from, unrewarding loot drops, but on top of that we have a death penalty and at higher levels desync can set you back hrs of play time. WE also have mandatory trading with a trade system from 1990. It may have worked in CB but now there are to many fucking people and its just rolling spam. I think the game needs to almost die like d3 did so they have to make the game more fun and rewarding.

The problem is blizzard learned from it's mistakes and it has 100x more budget and better game design than poe.
>map rng >desynch >bosses that 1 shot you even with 500 exalts worth of gear |

I don't think PoE will die at all. It may fluctuate during the release but I believe GGG will always have a strong fan base and I am happy to say I'm one of them. |

" Very true. The quickest way to piss off players is to be one-shotted even after working hard and spending high amounts of currency to gear up better. Even though I don't care for the cartoony look of Torchlight II the devs got the play balance perfect. In the boss battles you can run around for 10 to 20 minutes or more before finally defeating that boss but by shooting and moving fast you never get the feeling that you are just a one-shot crit damage death away. I played TL2 solo and in a threesome party and the boss battles were uber fun. The animation is fast and furious and so far the best fun of any of the modern arpgs. when it comes to boss battles and play balance. Too bad the storyline sucks and they went too far overboard on the set items (TL2 got so set loot crazy that I only saved set items). "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."

Kripp, in his stream yesterday nailed it imho:
quote: "Path of Exile is more in-depth, when you like theorycrafting n shit then play poe". "Diablo 3 is more like jump in, kill monsters, collect loot. the games are different. But there are only a few really viable builds in poe when you know the game very well. If you dont know the game very well, then it seems the game has a lot of build diversity, which is not the case, and then you will die A LOT." I thought about those two things for a while and then I thought: When I play an ARPG I want an overpowered character that destroys hordes of monsters and I want to collect loot. I dont want to struggle with monsters which can one shot me although they are 30 lvls below me. I think Kripp nailed it ... I honestly believe it really comes exactly to what Kripp said. Either you like theorycrafting and take into account that you will fail big time while trying out a build in poe and struggle with being one-shotted all the time. Or you just want to jump right into the action, kill stuff and collect loot. Diablo style.
