For those of you who have played PoE, D2, D3, and TL2..
" Oh wow here I was thinking it was going to be released on Jan 23.. but that's just open Beta. If all of you are saying it's this good when it's still in it's beta stages... Who knows how good it'll be post-Alpha. Regarding D3, I started a HC character to pass time... I've already sold my gear and given the gold to my friends as preparation of PoE. IGN: Shominaminoto

From a casual:
I played D2 since 1.09 until D3 release - I think thats 7 years? I played D3 for 1 month then going back to D2 I am playing PoE since August and I love it. I will never return to D3 and to D2 only for senitemtal recollections. It is different, at the moment costumization is awesome but content lacking substance. I am hopeful that will improve at least with Act 3 and from thereon into the future. Forums are SOOO much fun on patch day!
Casuals play because it's fun, not to achieve any goal unreachable with their resources. We are playing for the next difficulty, the next keystone, the next item upgrade. Not to feel better than anyone else. |

As someone who has played all those games and generally liked them(except for TL1 that game just didnt click for me) I dont know which one is better but its at the very least on the same level as the heavy hitters in the genre in my opinion. Its too early to say which will be the best but I think the fact I am even willing to consider it in the same league as such games as D2 means its off to a damn good start. If GGG keeps on the same track it has been I see no reason why PoE cant surpass all of these games

" This might be true of on-line RPGs and it might be true in that you've never played etc etc, but when it comes to character customization variety then the best games at this remain (and probably always will be) the RPGs from the golden era of Dungeons And Dragons based PC RPGs and the games which tried really hard to compete with them. The primary reason why the games of that era (Diablo 2 being from that era) are incredibly replayable is the sheer, almost limitless in one lifetime, variety of character customizations. Path of exile has equipment, skills, passive skills as it's three variables over 6 characters. This does generate a large number of replayable variables but not a best ever by any means. It's just math. It's 6 over 3. The PC games round the year 2000 had Primary Stats, Passive Skills, Feats, Equipment over 10 Characters each with between 1 and 7 Sub Classes (edit: AND another sub-set of Specialized Classes) (2nd Edit: AND a 3 by 3 variation of Alignment for each Character) which is, as I said, pretty damn incalculable, even for PoE math pros. But yes, PoE tries really well to get us back to that frame of mind when RPGing, and that's why were all here! |

Well i been playing it (POE) last few days and cant take myself away from it, maybe because it reminds me alot like d2 i cant compare it to d3 because i will always love that game, but the whole gem thing here on poe is something i really like and allows for some creativity. but as a new game it needs much more content more areas more story and dialog more destructble stuff and more gem options, but i like where its going and plan to play for a long time.

Sacred 2 also had Blind Guardian doing 'Sacred Worlds'.
Which is faceshredding awesome, especially live. No love for Titan Quest people? Sure it failed the all-important random map generator test, but for a single player epic arpg, I think it hit all the bases nicely. Loved the dual class system, the real-world settings completely mythologised...the fact that enemies could drop items that they were clearly using... If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

" That's always nice in a game. Its always bothered me a bit when a horde of mosquitoes was somehow hanging onto a piece of plate mail. Not much can be done about that really, necessary evil. In Wraeclast, if someone tries to kill you... you just kill them right back.

Well this is entirely my opinion, but its like this. POE is greater than everything you mentioned. Except D2. The way i see it , nothing can beat D2. Its an age thing. D2 was a leading power house in what we all expect today out of good ARPGs.
TL2, decent , missed the mark on a few things. D3 - total utter shit. POE, pretty fucking good. Cheers. GGG - Why you no?
