Day 7 and counting: Cannot get past character select screen: "failed to connect to instance "

Have you disabled any firewall/filtering features of the modem aswell? The information on it I can find is slim but it does seem to suggest there are such features.

I dont think the modem has any of those features, it is a few years old - I havent installed the modem s/ware on this laptop though so cant check . I just plugged it in, put in the fixed IP info etc and was good to go (and I got the usual dynamic IP allocated).

what is interesting is that, it should ask me for log in and p/wd but didnt. I am gonna ask the support about that too

guess I need to dig around and find the installation CD for the modem now.

Or hopefully the ISP's tech support will send someone over to sort it out :)
Have you tried accessing the modem using the telnet interface? Usually it's just a backup method but maybe it (the modem) doesn't expose a web-based interface.

To access via telnet it would be: telnet <gateway address>

yup - kept saying wrong login/pwd - though I did type in the correct one, I rechecked it with the ISP too :(
What credentials are you using to login? As in, from what source?

Try the following:
username: admin
password: password

oops,I was using wrong password.

I can telnet, and also check the same in http://gateway/main.html

I dont see any settings blocking anything.

QoS is disabled in WAN settings, not sure if I should enable it and try?

I guess the modem is REALLY old (it has Asheron's call as an option elsewhere in port configuration haha - I played it in 2000 last I think!)

Wide Area Network (WAN) Setup

Choose Add, Edit, or Remove to configure WAN interfaces.
Choose Save/Reboot to apply the changes and reboot the system.

VPI/VCI Con. ID Category Service Interface Protocol Igmp QoS State Remove Edit
1/32 1 UBR pppoe_1_32 ppp_1_32_1 PPPoE Disabled Disabled Enabled
0/35 1 UBR br_0_35 nas_0_35 Bridge N/A Disabled Enabled

You can try applying QoS for your machine and port 6112 however it should not make any difference (but who knows; if it's blocking an arbitrary port it may be doing other crazy things)

If Asheron's call is in the list try finding Diablo or another Blizzard game and allowing/forwarding it -- again, shouldn't make a difference, but at this point anything is worth a shot. (If you can't, just try adding a rule for port 6112 however finding a preset would be preferable as that may explain where the uniqueness of this port is comming from)

One last option is to reset the modem's firmware. As I can't find a user manual I'm not sure how this would be accomplished however the usual method is holding down a button on the device while it's in the off state then switching it on.

Also, are you able to try the test I described earlier involving wireshark?

if your router required configurations for Asheron's Call, then chances are pretty good it would require the same for Path of Exile. It also tells me that it is an old router and it might be a good idea to get a new one. They've made a lot of advances in the last 15 years.

Good game though (both of them)
