Best way to use mind over matter?

I'm using EB and MoM on my new build...

I've got insanely high health and mana regen with high mitigation AND avoidance... with multiple ways to get both health AND mana back very quickly (not through flasks mind you)

I'm sorry for being vague but I'm in the process of writing up a detailed summary of this build for the forums, and I really don't want someone to come in and try to say that they created it... There's several really interesting interactions between items and skills that I'm using that make EB and MoM work insanely well with one another. Haven't seen anything remotely similar to it yet.

Unfortunately, armor does literally nothing against very strong hits, so the 50% mitigation on your character screen wont apply.

Damage Reduction Factor = Armour / ( Armour + (12 * Damage) )

The 50% mitigation shown is based off what the damage dealt by an average white monster at your level.

With 3k armor vs merciless kole for example, who on average hits for about 2k non crit/3k crit (estimates):

3000/(3000+(12*2000) = 0.111~ or 11.1% mitigation.

So you take a 2k hit, armor reduces that to 2000*0.889 = 1778
Arctic Armor lvl 16 reduces that to 1778-120 = 1658

Assuming by this point you have around 2k hp and 1.5k mana with 300+ regen, with mind over matter you will get hit for 1160 on hp, 498 on mana.

Depending on how much mana you have after your auras, this might and might not cancel your arctic armor. That number gets slightly worse if he crits, but you get the idea.
While most of this is spot-on, I just want to point out that 222 damage mitigation is not "literally nothing;" in fact, Armour (the defense) here is mitigating more damage than Arctic Armour (the skill). 222 > 120, no?

Now with 3k armour against a 250 damage hit, that's 125 damage mitigated by armour, which is about the same as the 120 damage mitigated by Arctic Armour. So Arctic Armour is a lot like armour Armour, except more so... it's even more useless against big hits.

What makes AA good is its synergy with Evasion, copying armour's ability to take multiple small hits (which allows it to wade into the thick of melee). Essentially it's covering a weakness.

I already posted a few though, so you better hurry up, lol. :D

Crit dagger shield:
CLICK
CLICK 2 (high evasion, mana and life all to clear)

Dual wield (kind of sux now, dual wield to nerfed with cleave, must love dual strike for this one) High crit and very high attack speed. I think though the dagger allows for more defense and similar dps.
CLICK

Scion, dagger spectral throw, with Dodge (mana on gear >= ES from gear)
CLICK

Scion, lower mana Avatar of Fire + Blackgleam + chance to ignite + burning arrow, elemental build. Very high life, obvious how you level up (you don;t grab it all at once). Feel free to tweak it. Should give great ats, elemental damage and great burn with right skills linked, while taking out the crit reflect die factor.
CLICK

SO there are a few ideas. Daggers are hard to craft, that is the downside for daggers. Haven;t leveled a scion yet and I got a few other builds first before the bow one with Mind over Matter (lets face it I doubt I will grab it and go BM instead for that one, but y strong mana is nearby so it is an option, just got to get good mana gear, got a non EB templar with 1.4k mana and it has less mana nodes, so it can be done).

Got this elemental hit with death harp planned, probably will be killed by reflect dmg, but with high life and Vaal pact I think something might be possible ;) I also got this trap + totems stuff left to do first. The Dagger + Dual wield definitely are viable you also use Arctic Amour, got that one running (dual wield with AA worked prior to Mind over Matter, so it got boosted a lot), but I plan to respec into the dagger version. Not a fan of dual strike and cleave got nerfed into the ground, so yeah might as well do dagger crit + shield.

Well, as a leveling passive, it's just amazing. You don't need synergies. You don't need fancy setups. Just get MoM.

I havn't gotten to maps yet but so far mana issues are nil and I could feel the effect immediately after I got it (spectral throw evasion). As someone pointed out earlier, its great with an evasive ranged character since it wont constantly drain your mana, but it will help immensely with the few hits that do get through to you.

I think this keystone is underwhelming. There's too much mana regen required to keep up with monster damage. In my opinion, you'd need at least 250 mana regen before you could even consider getting this keystone, which is too much of an investment for not enough reward. On the Scion (which has the best mana regen access by far), 250 mana regen + MoM would be a ~20 passive point investment and you'd still need to prioritize mana regen on all your items. Meanwhile Acrobatics is 40% dodge, 30% spell dodge, and it's a hop skip and a step away.

The other advantage of course, that Acrobatics lacks, is having an insane mana pool for spells. But spells don't need a heavy mana investment to be spammable late game. It's overkill. And it's not like you can stack multiple Auras, you need your mana pool intact for the reduction to take effect. But hey, you could rock the Arctic Armor at least! lol...
If you have Armour or high EV you don't need that much mana regen or even close to it. MoM won't work as a primary defense mechanic without EB, but the DR on it is too small on its own anyway.

I hear ya. Just use MoM and BM gem +clarity, works fine for me.
Haven't done maps yet
EB + MoM + life

MoM doesn't work with CI

I'm pretty ridiculously tanky on my MoM Witch with EB. I can run Arctic Armour and have very high regen to help smooth out the mana being lost per hit.
If you dont want to head all the way down there, there is the new unique that grants mind over matter in addition to another 10% for 40% total. EB definitely seems like a requirement to use it, although it could be nice to soak up some chaos damage for low life builds that arent CI or shavs.
My only dissapointment is it's incompatible with energy shield. I thought I would use it to buffer out my low ES and make my low life build more successful, but it does not seem to work.
A scion may be born of the rich, and as such hold more opportunity...
but a scion will never be able to appreciate the finer beauty of those less fortunate.
