WHY DON'T YOU LIKE TO TRADE?

If I really wanted to trade PoE-style I'd buy cheap second-hand junk and take it to markets, then try and sell it for a profit.
But hey, guess what, it's boring as possible in RL, why why WHY would I want to waste valuable game time doing this for not even real money?

When I have loot I don't want, I vendor it instantly. That's how hack-n-slash has worked since rogue days. Or now I can give it to guildmates who want it, which is fine.
If I could just as easily throw it in an alternate dump where maybe people would pay me more, without me having to watch or care; call it - oh, I dunno, maybe an auction house - I'd probably do that. Or give it away in-guild, because who cares?

But don't ask me to waste my leisure time shopping online. Shopping, for me, is a tedious chore. Not pleasure, not in any way.
<edit> and from reading the thread, apparently it's necessary not just to know price ranges for whatever, but haggle. Oh, please. I'd rather pull weeds from the front drive.

tl:dr; I don't play Path of Exile for the shopping experience.

I prefer to know that the items I play with didn't get found by some playstyle I don't support. For example, the multi-boxers. I don't care if they do it... I just don't want to play with them or items they have generated. That's just one example too of playstyles that I wont participate with.

I guess it started back in D2 with pindlebots. That ruined trading for me and I really found that I enjoyed playing without trading more than I enjoyed playing with the items I traded for.

Because instead of just giving you a price when you ask what someone is selling an item for, they say "offer".

It's possibly the most irritating thing I have ever seen, and it's only getting worse. Now I'm seeing people in trade chat post in their advertisements "No offer =insta-ignore"

Thank you GGG for doing something about it (Public tabs).

If you watch trade while you play (which you should, not like you need full attention killing monkeys in act 2 or w/e) after maybe 2 hours in game you will know most exchange rates, and what a lot of items are worth.

Armed with that knowledge, say your character could really use X item, and you know it goes for 3-5ex. If you see someone selling, whisper them "2.5 exalt" etc... Its not fucking hard. If they say thats too low, make a comment on the rolls 'Oy Vey thats not even close to the highest atk speed roll!" just downplay the item and see if you can get it, I've seen ppl trying to sell the same item for hours, they get tired of it and WILL deal eventually, the question is are you going to be the 1st person to take advantage of them?

The same goes for selling, if you don't want to deal with a bunch of BS, just add a b/o to the end of the item. If it goes for 3 exalt sell it for 2-2.5 you will usually sell it instantly.

tl:dr git gud at trading scrubmaster
I've only read the first page of replies, so forgive me if I'm repeating someone else here.

I dislike trading (yes, I actively dislike it) for a couple of reasons. First and foremost is the fact that trading feels, to me, like paying someone else for my progress. I play these games because I want to develop my characters myself through killing monsters for xp and gear. Paying someone else for either of those two things feels like a bastardization of what the game is supposed to be about. Secondly, I dislike trade because I have to deal with people all day, every day. Some of them I like, some I don't. My gaming time is my time for myself. I don't want to deal with people in my "me time". I use my gaming to escape the things I have to deal with day in and day out, not to seek out more of those things. If that makes me anti-social then I'm anti-social.

It's amazing how pawn shops are still around...I mean if you don't have the knowledge to make a reasonable offer who's fault do you think it is?

I don't know how pawn shops work where you live, but here I have never walked into a pawn shop that didn't have a friggin price on every item in the store. THAT is how a store should operate.

You don't walk into a restaurant, order your food, and not know what the price is. This analogy is flawed.

Funny. I don't like trading because I am good at it. I recognize how much more efficient I can be by trading instead of playing. If I play competitively I have to trade and that ruins the fun for me.

I don't like to waste my time spamming chat or filtering all said spam for something I could possibly need.

I don't like to waste my time arguing over the often unreasonable sell/buy prices on stuff.

TLDR: it's not fun trading "the path of exile's way"

This is about the most unappealing solution I can think of. Having a chat scroll on as I am playing a game is profoundly annoying.

The BETTER solution (see my post above) is for people to just put a price on things they are selling. Like... you know... normal people. I should not need a bachelors in economics to know what to 'offer' someone for a friggin pair of boots.

People do not appear to understand the concept of bartering/haggling. Most traders come off as greedy douche bags and it makes the experience of trading crappy.

Also, constantly trading for everything seems to undermine the whole point of a dungeon crawler and that's killing monsters and FINDING cool gear. Yes I have found some cool gear but the vast majority was traded for.

And then you have people like me who wonder : how can you enjoy that? I'm probably in the minority but I like to play something that is my own, this includes gear I found or crafted. To me trading is not only a waste of time it also causes me to dislike my character, almost feels like cheating. But it's there and other enjoy it, good for them. I rather level a new character than find a suitable trade for some upgrade. Everyone can copy builds and trade for the gear required (which are no real builds to me), just be yourself, stop copying and trying to trade for gear thousands of other people already have, how boring is that...
