Scion unlocking: how will you do it?

No idea why GGG would appeal players to not get the unlock quickly -- we already spent hundreds of hours leveling/feedbacking the same content over and over and over again, losing HC chars to desync, etc etc.

Regardless, I have several mid-high HC characters ready for merci to go unlock her that have sit on the backburner should desync improve.

It's more about GGG, and Chris specifically, not wanting people to breeze through act 3X normal on a super high level character. A lot of work has gone into act 3X, clearly, and it's understandable the devs don't want people taking that for granted by obliterating it in ten minutes.

ya Ive been thinking about this, if I start a new character, its likely to be the new character, I really dont want to start yet another witch/ranger, esp with handfullls of them over level 80 with full respecs. So... Im going to have to 'unlock' her with a 25k dps melee ranger who crushes merciless piety in like 20 seconds.

I want to play it fresh again from the start, I can understand why we need to unlock her for new players but when youve got characters whove been 89 for many months you know the tree well enough to use the start properly and it just messes up the Christmas of the new content. It would be nice if open beta users who have beaten piety merciless get a free unlock on release day as a 1 off.

I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
I'm gonna take my level 83 facebreaker and wreck whatever challenge was supposed to be there to unlock the Scion. No point in pissing around with it.

There's also always the option of leveling a character ahead of time and getting it just to appropriate level for late act 3 so you can get it unlocked as soon as possible while still experiencing the challenge of doing so as intended.

This. I already have one alt that just finished the released A3 Normal, working on another. If it's a league-by-league thing then I'll probably start a new character in Domination or Nemesis.
I'm gonna do it proper and roll a new character in Domination. I want to see exactly how hard the A3 boss is going to be. I'm thinking I'll either do a Duelist or Ranger, melee of course. Not sure on the exact build yet, kinda wanna see the changes to the Skill Tree before planning that far ahead.
My problem with this is I want to start on the new hardcore league. If I do roll into the rest of A3 on a hardcore toon, not knowing what to expect, is just asking for trouble. What if I die before unlocking her? Should reroll again, setting myself even farther behind the pack? I would have gladly accepted the challenge as it is suppose to be IF I had access to the scion from the start.

If they wanted to I'm sure they could make it so that Act 3x is only available to new characters made after the patch. Once you complete it on normal with that character then it is unlocked for all existing characters.

But I think people should have the option to do it however they want. I will probably make a new char and be ready at the end of Act 2 normal then start Act 3 after patch.
smash the crap out of dominus on normal difficulty with a level 98 character of course.

is there some sort of reward for killing dominus? perhaps a single passive?

No idea yet, but it's worth noting that in act 1 and 2, you get no reward at all for killing the final boss except being able to move on to the next act, so no guarantee you'll get one here.

It's also possible the 2 points you get currently from killing Piety will be split up and you'll only get one for killing her now and one for Dominus.

Also, I suspect Eternal Lab will be moved to inside the Scepter of God, so you'll have to kill Piety and possibly Dominus as well to unlock it.
I'm just going to make another character and take my time leveling him/her up. Not in any rush to play the Scion immediately so I'll just enjoy the journey and experience everything at the appropriate levels...maybe a Reave Shadow or Ranger since I just found a Reave gem out in the wild.

I would prefer if they still stick with Piety kill reward being 2 points per difficulty, and Dominus be 1-2 points per difficulty. There is already enough gem rewards and to some extent items as well.

As to answering thr question from this thread. I will either have one of my friends piggyback my nth character all the way to the end, and maybe be below lvl 10 before entering cruel (I think there is minimum lvl restriction) or just equip my char facebreaker to plow his way through normal.
Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.
