Whats the Purpose of Garbage Uniques?

hmm.. lots of theorycrafting

first - any unique that is 'viable' only between lvl 1 and 10 is garbage. these levels fly so fast that noone cares. i race with white gear and dont give a shit about mods - except +life and +move speed%. crown of thorns is garbage. wow - you can reflect-kill some mobs in terraces,normal. WOW! fantastic. it makes this item so much better than what all reality-connected people think. this is garbage items that vendors for some alt/alch shards.


discharge is a lvl 21 (or 24, dont remember) spell and using it before it reaches lvl 8-10 is pointless - you dont have enough charges (any type) and discharge dmg at these lvls is quite bad

you say +2 to discharge gem is good? remind you that heatshiver means -res and no +life/+ES so if you want to gimp survivability and need to increase discharge dmg use this:
with 3 charges +1 charge means +33% MORE dmg. if that is not enough use 2 of these for yet another +25% MORE multiplier. 3 charges vs 5 charges is a HUGE difference vs +2 to skill level (at around 1-10 skill lvl)

for discharge mana regen does not matter - what matters is cast speed (end cry) and +max mana (ability to multi-link it)

for leveling.. yep.. nope. you lvl with fap-pulse. discharge is terribad lvling skill that has serious issues killing rare mobs with 'life regen' affixes. discharge is viable from lvl 14-15 upwards. just around when using heatshiver means instadeath

so it gives you a nice bonus at levels you dont need it (up to lvl 30 you can do using whites..) and a terribad penalty in cruel and merc when that +1/+2 skills could have been useful

btw if it is so good - link us your 4L and a build where you use it/have used it. linking it costs a little and if it is so good i wonder why i have NEVER seen one 4Linked..

what lvl you get your first aura? at what lvl blood magic gem/item is available? are you joking? these are pure theoretical (And impossible at the same time) dribbles about 'potential'. you can let your health be taken away by mobs but this is hardly a build..

30% more spell dmg at around lvl 20 means JACK SHIT. some spells are useless at this level, some are not even available yet, gear is garbage. and you are at lvl 20-30 for <1h. wearing crown of thorns at lvl 30 starts to be 'lets play without a helmet' thing. classy but pointless

have you EVER seen anyone USE (not talk about using it - talk is VERY cheap) crown of thorns in a way that makes even slight sense?

as always with these threads there are lots of people claiming that this item (And heatshiver and many more) are undiscovered jewels etc but strangely enough years pass and still noone wants them. so maybe they ARE garbage?

If they want to buff crown of thorns, make it give 30% more damage when low life, instead of enabling pain attunement then suddenly every sporker will want one.

Let me describe how shitty crown of thorns currently is: I can't even give them away for free. Nobody wants them. Even a noob that just started the game and is currently using mostly white items knows it sucks.

farming chance orbs is my major income in OS they are stable and easy to trade

Sigons was actually pretty nice to use on anything. So was nightsmoke.

Are you telling me you never wore sigons helmet or clegaws gloves on your sorceress when you just started them and didnt have anything else to wear?

If they dont wanna fix bad uniques... atleast put them in Set items section
wear 3 bad uniques and get 1 bonus mod

I have this , and I'm happy with that... sometimes sell some... sometimes I gitf my friends with a couple, give stuff on reddit global...

some uniques are great for leveling... start a new toon... and try it.. :)

I've used the Crown of Thorns on my low life/crit, EK/bear trapper to quite good effect in 28 pvp. I've seen a couple others as well. Since I was limited to points for crit and ES the Crown was very handy as I couldn't reach the PA node at that level.

This was an elite pvp character so I wouldn't say the Crown is shit.

The only low level unique I'd say I haven't been able to make use of is the Bramblejack chest. I've tried so many times to build a character around it, I am at a loss to how it can be used effectively in a reflect build.

I used Ezomyte on my 2-handed sword duelist untill Act 3 merciless to increease my killing speed, since i had IR and US it had no drawback other than the low armor - i didn0t have any resist problems and since i got a roll with +49 to life it was OK in that stat as well.

OK maybe i should have swapped earlier, but IMHO it is a GREAT leveling unique up untill at least Cruel (20% damage increase + huge life for that lvl (if you find a good roll))

EDIT: about the unques in the OP:
Kaoms primacy i currently one of the strongest weapns in my stash - not all of us have a Marohi AND maybe we do an axe build, why should it always be maces ;)

Shiverstring - great for leveling and awesome for lvl 28 PvP, i have a dedicated low lvl PvP buid on HC, focused on keeping my enemy slowed (thaks to shiverstrings cold damage), i don't have mana problems (thanks to shivers mana leech) and it is a counter to freeze caster builds (Ice spear can be deadly in PvP)

Lasr resort, shavronne's, Limbsplit, Foxshade - leveling uniques

I won't comment on Infactem, since i never tried it, but i'm sure the 100% pierce chance could be used in some build

But it is still a possibility to keep in mind. More than enough people care about the looks of their character! And those people bring money to GGG and -may- need garbage uniques to finish their looks.

There is absolutely NOTHING stupid about this and I really don´t see why you feel the need to be an asshole about it.
