TL 2 So Dissapointing
" Where did I said cheating is great? I said I am not affected by cheating, because I don't play with cheaters, but only with people that I know. I don't understand why would i care if someone cheated, why do you care if some random person cheats, and you can simple ban him? Your "weird" because you are affected what other people do in a game with no economy, no competition, and that somehow lowers your fun factor for the game. I dont know, you maybe want to have economy in this game, and bragging rights to show items that you farmed for months, that is ok, but this is not that type of game. If you dont have people with who to play legit add me on steam and we can play, find a small group that doesn't cheat and play. Join a guild for TL2 and have a group of people to play with that do not cheat. You will miss a fucking great game because of really stupid reasons. |

Torchlight 2 is fun. I think it's got the most clever monster creations of any rpg I've played. Just a lot of interesting variety.
It's not as serious a game as PoE. Actually, I think TL2's only real failure is in not parodizing the arpg genre. That game is so funny already, if they had made it completely ridiculous it could have been this year's best-seller. LIke instead of Beserker Class, they could call him The Juicer--whenever he stand still, he looks around suspiciously then injects roids into his bicep. Or the Embermage they could have The Cafeteria Lady. She throws flaming gruel or icy meatballs at people. Could have been amazing. Still the game's fun. |

" Cheating is despicable. However, I just ignore or block cheaters.. I don't get hyper on the forums. The devs made it so that you can have fun in TL2 regardless of what you get your kicks from. Why does freedom scare you so? :O |

" Bub, you really need to read what is written not what you perceive is meant. The argument was: Someone:"Torchlight 2 does what it promised: It's a fun game." You: "No, they LIED to us! They promised they would give us a secure online environment like battle.net. They didn't, and so the game sucks!" Other(s): "Erm, no, they did not promise that. In fact, they explicitly stated that they could not afford that." You: "Why are you so obsessed that cheating is great?" I think the one in the twilight zone here is indeed you. As for 'proof' that Runic did indeed say they wouldn't have secure servers, read through this reddit entry. It's an AMA (actually AUA), and the important part is here: "[...]We have NO plans to operate servers ourselves for a secure online environment.[...] -Travis Baldree" In a closing note, I would ask you to forgo misconstruing comments. I have NO idea how "They devs have stated before that TL2 will be free to mod, and it will not have a secured online environment like battle.net" translates to "I find cheating great". I simply don't play with people I don't know. I don't need secured online environs to enjoy a game to its fullest. Heck, the ability to mod is GREAT. I know that I spent way more time in modded HL multiplayer (CS, CI, Sven Coop, hundreds of little tweaks and new/retextured models) simply because it was fun. We didn't play to see who had the longest schlong, but to freaking have fun. Over ten years later, we still trade stories of all the weird things we did. What we don't do is "remember when X was ranked # 1 in game X?". 12/12/12 - the day Germany decided boys are not quite human.

The reason I say you all think cheating is great is quite simple: Why are we even still having this discussion?
Think about it. I really wanted TL2. I wanted it so badly I got two copies of it, even. But great as it was, it didn't take long before cheaters ruined it. You can't block them, either. That's like standing outside with a coffee cup in the rain, trying to prevent the ground from getting wet. For every raindrop you catch, two more flow past you. And the game has only been out a few days. What about in a month? Six months? Runic don't even try to hide the fact that they don't care. Look at the forums. It's flooded with threads on how to cheat, and not one of them are locked, removed or even edited. Far from it, people praise them. The one thing Runic did do watch add a patch so you can't use the console in multiplayer games. Which sounds great on paper, but what about single-player games? You do realize people can hack to their heart's content in their single-player games, then use the same character online? I can hack my character, give him tons of legendary stuff and join your game if I want to. Sure, you can block me, but wait an hour, and you'll have had two or three other cheaters by then you also need to block. Oh, sure, they (Runic) are giving us the option to block friendslists, so if someone cheat, we can block him and all his friends. But so what? How many 'friendslists' do you think there are? There are thousands. Millions. And let's say you block me and my friendslist. What if I quit said friendslist and join a new one? However the heck that works. And so for the best part. I've been against this since day one, and everyone consider me the bad guy. All I want is a game without cheating. It ruined Diablo 2. It ruined Diablo 3 (why do you think they force us to stay online all the time, and all that junk?). And it's ruined TL2. But every time I try to speak up about it, people tell me to shut the heck up and go on with my life. Even you guys do it, or else we wouldn't be talking about this right now. If you hadn't liked cheating, you would have agreed with me that it was bad and tried to find a solution. But you don't. All I can ask if you can at least try to keep PoE free of cheats. I love ARPGs, but PoE and Grim Dawn are my last chances. Diablo 3 is out, and it sucked. Sacred 3 has been anncounced some time ago, and it sounds horrible. Torchlioght 2 is out, and it's ruined by cheaters and Runic themselves. That leaves PoE and Grim Dawn. The oh so bright future we had while we were waiting for these games looks more and more like a train wreck. :( Btw people say Torchlight 2 can't have closed servers because Runic is a small company and all that BS. Grim Dawn is made by an even smaller company. At times there's only two people. I guess I can just scratch that one off my list too. :( "And that's how you die properly, sailor boy." " No, it's just that we don't care if other people cheat because it doesn't affect us in any way. Cheating is unavoidable when you store the character data on your computer instead of servers, and it's been perfectly clear that this would be the case so I dunno what you are whining about. |
|
" First for blocking, you block only the profile of the player, you don't block his friend list. If he is blocked, he can never join your game with any character until he buys new copy of game and creates different account. So people that cheat you will block, people that don't cheat, you add to friend list and play only with them (if you dont have anyone with who you can play). Funny you speak of grim dawn, following that game for more than 2 years now, and do you know what? They also are exactly same as TL2, because they are small team, and dont have money to create closed servers. They do exactly all same as TL2, open modding, no secure servers, local saves, and it means cheating will be 100% same as in TL2. The game is ruined because people that cheat join your game? Few tips, when creating game, make it only for friends, and people that you trust, and you will never ever see cheaters in your game. Dont have frends with who you can play TL2? Join guilds, go to runic forums, there are a lot of people that play only legit. That's why runic said play with friends, and people you know. " Bolded for emphasis. I simply care not one whit if others are cheating. Heck, if I bothered playing TL2 online, I could even sort them out because apparently they are flagged. Simply mark your game as 'Friends only', and you are set. TL2 gives all the tools to the player - it's our thing what we do with them. Of course, many will abuse those tools. But since I can choose to be completely unaffected by them, I simply don't give a single fig. 12/12/12 - the day Germany decided boys are not quite human.

" But that's the thing. Cheating does affect my game. It's fortunately not so bad right now, but the game has only been out a short while. Diablo 2 saved characters on the server side, and yet it was ruined by dupes, cheats and all that. How bad do you think it'll be in TL2, when they openly say they don't care if people cheat? Check the game again in a few months, and I'd think the people who don't cheat are the minority or playing solo. To give you an example, I was playing Diablo 2 online when it was still popular, and some guy showed up, dropped a whole bunch of high-level gear in front of me and pretty much demanded that I accept it. I had never seen him before, and never saw him again. But he was just one out of many. How long do you think it'll take before we get the exact same thing in TL2? Keep in mind Blizzard did everything they could to stop cheaters, and Runic officially don't care. " Actually, I heard you would be able to block the cheater and his entire Steam friendslist soon. I hope it's true, but for some reason I couldn't find the quote on the forum. I did, however, find plenty of threads making fun of people who don't want cheaters, who want secrure servers and all that. Even a mocking post from Runic, sadly. :( " That makes me so sad... :( Oh, well. It's off my list. Thanks, now I won't be disappointed when it's released. " If I make it only for friends, how will ever I meet new friends? I could join guilds, but how do I know they won't be cheating too? Thanks for the suggestion, though. I tried playing it some more, but uninstalled it for the second time. This time I won't reinstall it. It's sad that the entire ARPG genre seems to be going down the drain. :( "And that's how you die properly, sailor boy."

It's like talking to a wall...
Don't expect the "mmo experience" from TL2. Play solo or with friends, that's what the game is designed for. A shoe isn't bad just because you can't get your head in it. |
